    Here are 16 Movies Coming To Showmax in December 2024 & January 2025

    1. Wonka – Streaming on Showmax from Friday, 6 December 2024

    Inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (Dune) as the young Willy Wonka, bursting with ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time.

    Directed by Paul King (writer-director of the Paddington films) and produced by Harry Potter’s David Heyman, this magical musical comedy was the seventh biggest blockbuster of 2023.

    Chalamet won the Kids’ Choice Award for Favourite Movie Actor, while Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, and Olivia Colman received nominations across Critics Choice and Kids’ Choice categories.

    Also watch out for Hugh Grant’s delightful turn as an Oompa Loompa.

    Wonka boasts an 82% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with The Guardian calling it “spectacular, imaginative, sweet-natured, and funny.”

    2. The Killer – Streaming on Showmax from 2 December 2024

    John Woo (Silent Night, Mission: Impossible II, Face/Off) reimagines his 1989 Hong Kong classic in English with The Killer.

    Emmy nominee Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones, Fast Saga) stars as Zee, a feared assassin in Paris. During a mission, she spares a blinded young woman, a choice that unravels her alliances, attracts the police, and drags her into a conspiracy linked to her past.

    The film also features Golden Globe nominee Omar Sy (Lupin, Jurassic World) and Teen Choice winner Sam Worthington (Avatar).

    IndieWire praises The Killer as “shockingly good,” while The Guardian notes that Woo “still stages mayhem more inventively than Hollywood’s newcomers.”

    3. Eilleen – Streaming on Showmax from Monday, 2 December 2024

    Critics Choice nominee Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho, Jojo Rabbit) and Oscar winner Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) star in Eileen, a psychological thriller about a young secretary infatuated with Rebecca, a glamorous new counsellor at her workplace.

    Vogue describes Eileen as “a gem destined for cult classic status,” and “an unbearably tense Hitchcockian thriller.”

    Adapted from Ottessa Moshfegh’s award-winning novel, the film melds dark intrigue with chilling atmosphere.

    4. If – Streaming on Showmax from 9 December 2024

    Directed by John Krasinski (A Quiet Place), If follows Bea, a girl who can see everyone’s imaginary friends and embarks on a magical quest to reunite them with their children.

    The film stars Cailey Fleming (The Walking Dead) and Emmy winner Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), alongside a stellar voice cast including Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Awkwafina.

    Common Sense Media describes IF as “a mind-bending, eye-popping musical extravaganza that’s truly unforgettable.”

    5. John Early: Now More Than Ever – Streaming on Showmax from 12 December 2024

    In his first HBO comedy special, John Early combines biting commentary, pop star swagger, and his signature hilarity in a performance set at Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn.

    Styled as a gritty 70s rockumentary, Now More Than Ever interweaves stand-up, dynamic song covers—from Britney to Neil Young—and backstage sketches reminiscent of Spinal Tap.

    Nominated for the 2024 Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Special and an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, it also holds a perfect 100% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

    6. Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero – Streaming on Showmax from 12 December 2024
