South African artist, songwriter, and producer Charlie Void has unleashed his high-energy dance-pop single, “Velvet Runway”.
The track seamlessly bridges the gap between music, fashion, and performance art, offering a polished contemporary sound with a distinct retro-pop edge.

Written, performed, and produced entirely by Charlie Void, “Velvet Runway” is designed to be much more than just a standalone song. It acts as a carefully constructed conceptual world where fashion, photography, movement, and character are central to the project.
The release reflects his core approach to pop music: it is something that should be experienced visually just as much as it is heard, sitting comfortably between mainstream dance-pop and theatrical performance.
The single has already made serious waves on streaming platforms. Just three days after landing on the New Music Daily editorial playlist, “Velvet Runway” surged from a low-profile placement to become the third track featured in the Best New Songs preview by 21 September.
It now sits in elite pop company, positioned immediately after new releases from Kim Petras and Troye Sivan, and directly ahead of Miley Cyrus.
The Team Behind Charlie Void’s Latest Track
This release marks another dynamic chapter in a career that effortlessly blends songwriting, production, visual art, and performance. After studying practical pop songwriting in the United States from 2017 to 2019, Charlie Void returned to South Africa to officially launch his recording career.
For “Velvet Runway”, he teamed up with veteran South African songwriter and publisher Patric van Blerk through Silversongs (Pty) Ltd / PvB Music. The track’s publishing administration and sync representation are handled by Downtown Music Publishing Africa (formerly Sheer Publishing Africa).
