In case you did not know, Chris Stapleton is a prominent American country singer-songwriter and guitarist. His career began as a successful songwriter in Nashville, writing six number-one singles for artists like Kenny Chesney and George Strait.

Stapleton gained prominence as the lead singer of The SteelDrivers from 2008 to 2010 and later formed the rock band The Jompson Brothers.Chris Stapleton

His solo career took off with the release of his 2015 debut album Traveller, which topped the US Billboard 200 and went quadruple platinum. The album featured the hit cover “Tennessee Whiskey,” which earned diamond certification.

1. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1978.

2. He relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 1996 to pursue an engineering degree at Vanderbilt University. However, he left the program to focus on a music career and soon after signed a contract with Sea Gayle Music to write and publish his songs.

3. Chris Stapleton has earned numerous accolades, including 10 Grammy Awards, 11 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, and 15 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards. He was also honored as the ACM’s Artist-Songwriter of the Decade.

4. Stapleton is married to fellow songwriter Morgane Stapleton, and together they have five children. The couple has worked on numerous musical collaborations and are known for their philanthropy, including the Outlaw State of Kind charitable fund.

5. Chris Stapleton’s journey into music was inspired by several key factors throughout his life. Growing up in a family of coal miners in Kentucky, he was immersed in a culture where country music was a significant part of daily life. His parents were avid listeners of country artists, which instilled in him a deep appreciation for the genre from an early age.

6. When he’s off stage, Chris Stapleton enjoys pursuing his passion for classic cars, frequently expanding his remarkable collection of vintage vehicles.

8. “Tennessee Whiskey” is one of Chris Stapleton’s most iconic songs. Although Stapleton popularized the song, it is actually a cover of a country classic, originally written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove and first recorded by David Allan Coe in 1981. George Jones also recorded a version in 1983.

Stapleton’s rendition of “Tennessee Whiskey” combines elements of blues, soul, and country, giving it a smoother, more soulful sound compared to earlier versions. His version became a massive hit, going viral after a performance with Justin Timberlake at the 2015 CMA Awards. The song achieved diamond certification, marking it as one of his most successful releases.

9. On April 28, 2019, Stapleton made a cameo appearance as an extra in “The Long Night,” the third episode of the eighth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

10. Stapleton worked with Tom Morello, guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, on both the writing and performance of the track “The War Inside,” which appears on Morello’s 2021 album The Atlas Underground Fire.

11. Chris Stapleton and Slash (from Guns N’ Roses) collaborated on a cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s classic song “Oh Well” for Slash’s 2024 blues album, Orgy of the Damned.

The album features several other notable collaborations, including contributions from artists like Brian Johnson of AC/DC and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. The album is a tribute to traditional blues and showcases a variety of musical styles and influences.

12. He has received acclaim for his guitar skills, frequently highlighting his talent with impressive solos during live performances. Chris Stapleton’s guitar playing adds depth to his music, further showcasing his musical expertise.
