Today’s Twitter user / person in the Interesting Tweople section on Running Wolf’s Rant is a born and bred Pretoria local named Ruan “Stix Fourie” (@gevaaalikdotcom).
Stix is one of the most renowned bloggers in Gauteng and his blog (http://gevaaalik.com) was nominated for the SA Blog Awards in 2011 for Best Music Blog. He’s gained somewhat of a reputation for saying things like they are in an interesting “out of the horses mouth” kind of way.
Stix describes gevaaalik.com as something that started out as a joke and turned into a blog. Twitter was the way they spread the word about this blog. Now the site is a source of news, info, knowledge and some funny shit every now and then.
For those of you who did not know, Gevaaalik.dom is an Afrikaans, Music, Lifestyle, Entertainment and whatever-the-fuck-else-they-want-to-place blog with multiple contributors.
I recently had the privilege to ask Ruan “Stix” Fourie some questions and this is what he had to say:
Would you consider yourself to be a dangerous individual?
No I’m a total puppy. One of the nicest people in the world. I’m so nice everyone should contact me and empty their bank accounts into my pockets. That is how fucking nice I am. Seriously I have some anger in me, but I’m not dangerous. Mostly I just want to have a good time.
Stix, you were nominated for Best Musical Blogger for the SA Blog Awards in 2011, what are your thoughts about the Blog Awards in general and do you have any comments about your experience?
The Blog Awards is a changing it’s format every year, it’s a hard system to get right and clearly everything isn’t perfect. Plus it would be nice if the two big sponsors (I’m looking at you Ogilvy and Pick ‘n Pay) would help get the nominees to the actual award ceremony. Just a though. But I can’t complain. This was my/our first year as a blog and we got nominated. DIY beat us for the award and they really deserve it, they run a great music and arts blog.
What are Stix’s thoughts about Twitter and Facebook?
It’s a strange thing. I hardly use my own Facebook account any more. I basically use Facebook for gevaaalik.com’s Facebook fan page these days. The problem with Facebook is that it seems it has made people forget that some things still should be kept private, no one wants to know about the color of your shit.
Twitter is a different animal all together. I prefer Twitter to Facebook. It’s such a great tool for making contact with people. It gives you the opportunity to ask people you would never have had the chance to meet otherwise, some questions. Some of them get back to you and some don’t, but you still have the opportunity. Just make sure your question is good.
Would you say that Social Media has changed your life and if so, how?
Well Facebook has shortened my life a bit by making my blood pressure rise a bit every time I log in. Twitter has just helped me meet so many people. I’ve learned a lot from a bunch of people I’ve never even met face to face, but with Twitter my questions have been answered and I listened. Also some really nice girls have contacted us via Twitter to be on gevaaalik.com, that’s also cool. A Twitter handle is just so much more accessible than a e-mail address.
What is Stix currently working on?
Well we have our Superbru pool going with some really nice prizes from Jägermeister. Anyone can join the fun and you might just win yourself some booze. Then we also have something else in the works that I can’t really say to much about, but I will say this: party, music, good times, good vibes and gevaaalik.com.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish Ruan “Stix” Fourie the best of luck with his future endeavours. Do yourself a favor, follow @gevaaalikdotcom on Twitter, you will not be disappointed. The man doesn’t tweet as often as I do, but he when he tweets, his tweets are worthy to read and will probably enhance your knowledge or make you laugh 8 out of 10 times.
