South African singer-songwriter Mel Malisch has released her latest single, “What Are You Waiting For,” a deeply personal and evocative track that explores themes of self-worth, intuition, and resilience.
This release comes ahead of her highly anticipated debut album, Scars & Gratitude, which is set to launch in January 2025 through the renowned label Just Music.

Based in the serene coastal village of Kommetjie, Cape Town, Mel Malisch has quickly risen to prominence for her authentic approach to music and her knack for transforming personal struggles into resonant, uplifting melodies.
She began her musical journey on the piano at just six years old, but it wasn’t until she picked up the guitar at 27 that her songwriting truly took flight. Inspired by profound loss, she channeled her experiences into song as a means of healing and expression.
“My inspiration for ‘What Are You Waiting For’ stemmed from my own moments of doubt and hesitation but quickly became an anthem for trusting oneself and embracing the journey, no matter how uncertain,” Mel explains. “In sharing my stories, I hope to inspire others to believe in their own worth and let life unfold as it’s meant to.”
Known for her grunge-influenced indie-folk sound, inspired by the 90s, Mel blends intricate musical arrangements with her raw, emotive vocal style.
