Netflix recently celebrated a monumental 10 years in South Africa at a press showcase in Rosebank, Johannesburg, unveiling an expansive slate of new and returning local content.
Since launching in 2016, the streaming giant has supported over 8,000 jobs, partnered with more than 30 local production companies, and brought over 300 South African stories to screens worldwide.

A Decade of Global Impact
Over the past ten years, groundbreaking local productions like Blood and Water, Young, Famous & African, Unseen, Silverton Siege, Fatal Seduction, How to Ruin Christmas, and Kings of Joburg have celebrated South Africa’s rich cultural heritage across the globe.
The global appetite for these stories is undeniable. The recent Johannesburg-filmed smash hit The Polygamist generated over 24 million views in its first weeks, ranking #1 in over 21 countries. Its success even tripled the sales of Sue Nyathi’s original 2012 book.
