On Saturday I got on the Hotbox Express at Aandklas to make my way to The Prodigy at Synergy Live 2012 Johannesburg. This one day festival was held at Riversands Farm in Fourways. The Prodigy were not the only act to perform. Our local acts all did South Africa and SA Music proud, despite the fact that the festival got off to a delayed start.
However, this post is not a review of Synergy Live 2012 Johannesburg, that post is coming up sometime in this week. Today’s post is just about The Prodigy at Synergy Live. These British blokes blew the faithful away with their intense blend of electro meets rock ‘n roll.
The Prodigy played almost an hour and a half set with their full band. They delved into plenty of the songs that made them famous like “Smack My Bitch Up”, “Voodoo People”, “Breathe” and “Firestarter”, much to the delight of the amped up Jozi crowd.
I missed them when they came to SA the first time in 1998, so this was kind of a dream come true to me. It was one of the most energetic sets that I’ve ever seen by a band and I rank their performance as one of the best live shows that I’ve ever seen. I’m also pretty sure that the 8,000+ strong crowd will agree with me. Seeing The Prodigy at Synergy Live just made my weekend (and possibly my month and my year).

Kudos to Arcade Empire, Griet and the other organizers involved for bringing Synergy Live 2012 to Johannesburg this year. What did you think of The Prodigy at Synergy Live?
