A quick pre Oppikoppi chat with Jonathan Peyper

Jonathan Peyper and his band (which consists of Chris Van Der Walt from The Black Cat Bones and Jason Hinch from Boargazm) will be playing at Oppikoppi this year and they’re definitely one of the acts you should watch.

Peyper is undoubtedly one of the greatest up-and-coming guitarists and musicians in the South African Rock and Blues community and produced a groundbreaking album which evoked a flood of emotions in 2014.

I recently had a chat with Jonathan Peyper about Oppikoppi and a few other things. This is what he had to say:

When you think of Oppikoppi, what comes to mind?

Great bands, great people and just pure excitement and joy with the thought of playing for all of them.

What is your favorite quote about the Blues?

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” Jimi Hendrix

What have you up to lately?

We’ve been playing a lot of big festivals this year and been working on the new album hopefully to be released at the end of this year.

What is the funniest thing you’ve ever experienced at a festival?

    Drunk people in a fight.

What can music fans expect from your set at Oppikoppi this year?

They can expect a type of in your face power blues, almost Rage Against the Machine vibe backed by  powerful dirty bass riffs and smashing drum fills. We are intending to bring our A game and amaze the crowd at Oppikoppi this year because its one of the most important festivals in the country. We are looking forward to seeing all of you there.

I’d like to thank Jonathan Peyper and his band for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their set at Oppikoppi this year. If you’re a blues / rock fan, don’t miss their set!

General Admission tickets for Oppikoppi cost R850. Get yours now or you’ll be paying R950 for a late ticket.
