A quick Pre Mieliepop chat with the Black Cat Bones

The Black Cat Bones are one acts playing at Mieliepop 2016 that you should NOT miss. These Pretoria boytjies have been making waves in the SA Rock scene since 2009 and well-known for their stellar live performances. They’ve blown away audiences at festivals like RAMFest, Up The Creek and Oppikoppi (to name just a few) and are definitely one of the hardest working acts in the SA Music Scene today.

Chris Danger Van Der Walt is a demon on bass with a knee brace, Andre Kriel’s rocking riffs make love to my eardrums, Kobus De Kock Jr’s vocals blows me away every time I hear him sing  and Jason Oosthuizen’s drum skills is something that can only be described as “impressive”.

I recently had a chat to the Black Cat Bones about Mieliepop and a few other things. This is what they had to say:

What comes to mind when you think of Mieliepop Festival?

Well, to ‘pop’ your ‘mielie’ can mean a number of different things to a number of different people. To us it’s a means of removing your Corn from your cob…

What can music fans expect from your set at Mieliepop 2016?

Power meeting melancholy. We’re mixing it up for this one in an attempt to showcase our versatility on both the musical as well as the performance fronts.

What is currently playing on your iPod / CD Player / Music Streaming service that you use?

Alabama Shakes, our pre-production demos, and the new Jack Hammer album ‘Handful of Rain’.

What is your favorite pre-set antic / gimmick / chant before you play a set?

A lot of frantic running around trying to find our drummer, and strapping on Chris’s knee brace.

Which quote / phrase would you use to describe the term “Rock ‘n Roll” ?

We think this album cover by 70’s Blues-Rock band Foghat describes it best… Get it?

I’d like to thank the Black Cat Bones for the chat and wish them all of them best with their performance at Mieliepop 2016. If you’re going to be there, don’t miss their set if you want to rock the fuck out.

If you’re not familiar with the Black Cat Bones, have a listen to their version of ZZ Top’s “Gotsta Get Paid” at Oppikoppi 2015:
