Alfred Hitchcock was born in Leytonstone, London in the United Kingdom in 1899. He pioneered many techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres. He moved to Hollywood after achieving success in his native England with silent films and early talkies. In 1956 he became an American citizen but he retained his British citizenship. In his career (which spanned 60 years) he directed more than 50 feature films.

He directed the now legendary psychological thriller Psycho (which was released in 1960). He also directed The Birds which was released in 1963. Besides being a director, Alfred Hitchcock was also an actor, often making cameo appearances in the films he directed. He was also involved in the movie industry as a writer, and contributed to a few screenplays as well. He directed his first film in the early 1920s.

He directed his last film, The Family Plot in 1976. He died in 1980 in Bel Air in Los Angeles, California in the United States. The cause of death was renal failure. He will be remembered as the “Master of Suspense” and a legend of both the silver screen and television.
