Yesterday it was announced that San Diego rockers Latex Grenade are heading to our shores this month for their second tour. The rockers visited South Africa for the first time in 2018. They supported Springbok Nude Girls on their Beatiful Evolution tour.
I recently had a chat to Geoff Davis from Latex Grenade about their tour and a few other things. This is what he had to say…
You guys must be pretty stoked to finally be back touring our beautiful country again. What proudly South African thing are you most excited to experience while on tour this time around?
We are very excited to go to the Kruger National Park this time around! Also, we need to get some better South African lingo to take home!
You guys first toured South Africa back in 2018 alongside Springbok Nude Girls. What are some of your fondest memories from that tour?
We were fortunate enough to get quite a few packed shows because of the Nude Girls. That was awesome. Also singing “Best Friends Best Enemies” with Arno on stage was bad ass at The Rusty Hook.
There is a possibility that some of Running Wolf’s Rant’s readers are living under a rock. To those that has never heard of Latex Grenade before, please introduce yourselves (adding a random fact about every member too).
Latex Grenade brings a massive surge of energy to the live performance. We are out of San Diego, CA and bring the California hard rock/ punk rock style to light.
Random facts: Geoff played quarterback for Humboldt State University on the football team. Nick is a massive Star Trek fan, so much so he has attended the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas for 5 consecutive years. Jason has longer hair than his wife, Cherelee. We just measured.
These readers are starting to come out from under their rocks now, but to fully bring them up to speed, how would you describe Latex Grenade’s sounds?
I think that we are right around the same genre as Rise Against, Strung Out, AFI and The Offspring.
Who are some other acts that inspire you guys?
We grew up heavily listening to Metallica, Tool, Lamb of God, Slayer and As I Lay Dying, so there is definitely a lot of metal influence to our sound.
To those of us who missed your tour in April of 2018, what can we expect from one of your sets?
We are going to bring the energy and have quite a bit of fun on stage. Bring ear plugs and a sense of humour as every once in a while we make jokes.
Which act would be a dream to perform alongside?
I don’t necessarily feel playing with a specific band is the dream as much as having the opportunity to play in front of 60,000 people in an arena all knowing the words and the messages you are conveying. That would be a dream come true.
Would there be a chance that Latex Grenade returns to South Africa in the near future?
We are absolutely interested in building a following here in South Africa. The people are incredible and it is such a fun place to jam out!
I’d like to thank Geoff and Latex Grenade for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their upcoming tour and their future musical endeavors.
