Jacaranda FM’s long-running Good Morning Angels initiative has once again stepped in to make a meaningful difference, donating a total of R200,000 to four SPCA branches across Gauteng.
The funding will provide immediate relief and help with much-needed upgrades, allowing the organisations to continue caring for abused, neglected, and abandoned animals.

Across South Africa, SPCAs carry a legal responsibility to protect animals from cruelty and neglect. Despite this mandate, none receive government funding and must rely entirely on public donations to sustain their work.
When four branches in Gauteng recently reached out for assistance, Good Morning Angels responded by allocating R50,000 to each organisation.
Support for Vital Infrastructure and Animal Care
SPCA Tshwane plans to use the funds to improve kennel facilities at its Waltloo and Centurion locations. Cracked cement in the kennels has made it difficult to contain disease, and the organisation hopes to address these issues through upgrades.
The branch also aims to install infrared heating lights in puppy kennels to help keep young animals warm during winter, ideally powered by solar energy to ensure reliable heating during power interruptions.
At Kempton Park SPCA, the donation will assist with urgent repairs to kennel infrastructure. Electrical wiring and damaged gates are among the issues being addressed, while a portion of the funding will also go towards feeding the 80 to 100 animals currently in their care.
Springs SPCA faces particularly heavy demands, as it cares for both domestic pets and farm animals, including donkeys, cattle, sheep, and goats.
The organisation receives approximately 370 animals every month, which adds up to more than 4,500 animals each year. Feeding these animals requires around 150 kilograms of food every day, and the donation will help cover these essential costs.
Meanwhile, Midrand SPCA will use its contribution to purchase tick and flea treatments, blankets, washing powder, and fuel. The funds will also support a sterilisation campaign aimed at responsibly managing the local animal population.
“Voices for the Voiceless”
Martin Bester, host of Breakfast With Martin Bester on Jacaranda FM, says supporting animal welfare organisations remains a cause that is deeply personal to him.
“For me, donating towards the four SPCAs on behalf of Good Morning Angels is something I could do every single day of my life if I could,” Bester says. “It’s a cause very close to my heart. The people who work at SPCAs, the voices for the voiceless, are absolute angels. Our job is simply to empower them so they can continue being there for cats, dogs, donkeys, chickens, pigs and other animals that are neglected, abused or abandoned.”
Bester also encouraged both businesses and individuals to contribute to the work of animal welfare organisations within their communities.
“I want to encourage companies and individuals to support their local SPCA in whatever way they can. The least we can do is assist them. Let’s empower them, support them, and help make their days a little easier so they can continue caring for the animals that need them most.”
Good Morning Angels is continuing a Legacy of Giving
For more than two decades, the Good Morning Angels Fund has helped change lives by mobilising Jacaranda FM listeners and corporate partners to support individuals, families, and organisations in need.
Through initiatives like this latest donation, the programme continues to extend its impact to animals who rely on these organisations for safety, care, and a second chance.
Listeners can tune in to Good Morning Angels every Wednesday morning on Breakfast With Martin Bester on Jacaranda FM.
