As excitement continues to build for the upcoming ULTRA South Africa, globally celebrated DJ and producer Kitty Amor is preparing to deliver a performance rooted in the culture and sound that helped shape her musical identity.

Ahead of taking the stage later this month, Kitty Amor reflected on her deep connection to South Africa, her evolving sound, and what fans can expect from her highly anticipated set.

Kitty Amor

A Special Connection With South African Fans

For Kitty Amor, performing in South Africa carries personal meaning. Over the past eight years, she has spent significant time travelling across the country, immersing herself in its music culture and drawing inspiration from its ever-evolving soundscape.

She has often described South Africa as a second home, noting how the passion and energy of local audiences continue to fuel her creativity. Performing for South African crowds, particularly in cities like Johannesburg and Cape Town, remains one of the highlights of her touring calendar.

Tailoring Sets for Local Audiences

While her performances abroad, particularly in London, often take on a more educational tone that introduces audiences to Afro house roots, her approach in South Africa shifts noticeably.

Local audiences receive something different — a performance that pays homage to the origins of electronic music and celebrates the country’s role in shaping what the world now recognises as Afro house.

This recognition of South Africa’s influence remains central to her identity as an artist.

Where the Afro Influence Began

Kitty Amor’s journey into African-inspired electronic music began during her university years in London, where she first discovered the genre through personal research.

However, her first visit to Johannesburg transformed her relationship with the music entirely. Experiencing firsthand how electronic music forms part of daily life for many South Africans deepened her connection to the sound and solidified its place at the centre of her creative direction.

A New Single Bringing Fresh Energy

Fans can also look forward to hearing material from Kitty Amor’s latest single, “Mean 2 Me”, a collaboration featuring Skyla Tylaa and Ruger.

The track emerged from an impromptu studio session, blending Afro house elements with commercial influences drawn from Afrobeat and Amapiano. The collaboration allowed Kitty Amor to explore new creative directions while maintaining the signature rhythmic energy that defines her sound.

What to Expect From the ULTRA Stage

When she steps onto the stage at ULTRA South Africa, fans can expect a performance driven by high energy, intensity, and deep musical storytelling.

Her sets are designed to take audiences on a journey through the evolution of Afro house — from its tribal origins to modern melodic and techno influences. The result is a performance built to keep crowds moving from start to finish.

The diversity of ULTRA audiences also plays a role in shaping her approach. Rather than sticking to a fixed structure, she embraces the creative freedom offered by South African crowds, allowing the atmosphere to guide the musical flow.

It’s a Busy Year Ahead for Kitty Amor

Looking beyond ULTRA, Kitty Amor has hinted at a packed year filled with new releases and global performances. She plans to increase her solo output while maintaining a strong touring schedule, balancing time between the studio and the stage.

She is also expected to continue curating her own events at major music gatherings, including Amsterdam Dance Event, as she expands her global footprint.
