Manuel Campos, widely known as Mankav and a cornerstone of the Angolan rock movement, has officially announced his latest project: Campos Ritual.
This venture represents a powerful moment for the African underground scene as the veteran vocalist joins forces with his 14-year-old son, Guilherme Campos, to lead a new charge for heavy music.

The project debuts with an explosive cover of the Mastodon classic, “Blood and Thunder,” recorded at Estúdio Dois in Luanda.
The release has already garnered international acclaim, being featured on the world-renowned channel 666MrDoom, where curator George Kellamis described it as one of the best covers of this classic track.
Manuel Campos is a multifaceted force in Angolan alternative culture
As the vocalist for influential bands like Kishi and Porta Magna, he has helped define the sound of modern Angolan metal.
Beyond his vocal work, he is a respected event promoter, DJ, and the voice behind the long-running radio program Rockstation on Afriradio 106.1 FM.
Through Campos Ritual, Manuel transitions from a solo icon to a mentor. By performing alongside Guilherme, he is working to ensure the genre’s survival and growth in the region, bridging the gap between established legends and the next generation of creators.
Human Soul vs. Digital Trends
In an era where music is increasingly influenced by algorithms and artificial intelligence, Manuel sees this project as a necessary statement.
He notes that in a world dominated by digital screens, he wants this project to inspire other children to pick up a real instrument and create music.
Manuel believes that Guilherme’s dedication shows there is no substitute for the raw energy and human soul of a guitar.
The goal of Campos Ritual is to prove that the future of music still belongs to creators who aren’t afraid to get their hands loud and lean into authentic, physical performance.
The New Generation Takes the Lead
At just 14 years old, Guilherme Campos has stepped into the role of lead guitarist with professional precision. Despite “Blood and Thunder” being his first studio experience, his performance was flawless, capturing the complex and high-energy spirit required for such a technical track from Mastodon.

Based in Luanda, Angola, Campos Ritual is more than just a band; it is a cross-generational metal collaboration. Led by a seasoned artist and fueled by the fire of a rising star, the project focuses on high-intensity covers and original compositions that celebrate the past while forging a new path for African metal.
