Following the recent release of “On a Dream”, South African storyteller and songwriter Carol-Ann Meltzer continues her creative journey as Khazimula with the release of her latest single and accompanying music video, “Celebrate Life”, on Friday, 21 August.
Once again produced by acclaimed South African producer Mark Beling, “Celebrate Life” builds on the themes of hope, possibility and personal growth introduced in “On a Dream”, while offering a deeper look into the philosophy and stories behind the Khazimula project.
“Celebrate Life” is a celebration of shared humanity in a world that can often feel divided. The song serves as a hymn of gratitude for life, beauty, kindness and hope, while reminding listeners of the things that unite us.
Rather than focusing on the differences that can divide people, the song celebrates our shared hopes, dreams, challenges and aspirations as human beings.
Born from the same philosophy behind “Let Your Colours Shine” and “We Are the Treasure”, “Celebrate Life” encourages people from all walks of life to come together, practise gratitude and recognise every day as both a blessing and a miracle.
“Celebrate Life” Is an Anthem of Shared Humanity
At its heart, “Celebrate Life” explores what it means to be human and encourages listeners to appreciate the beauty and individuality of others, regardless of their differences.
The song’s message is that every person has value and the ability to make a positive contribution to the world. Each individual brings something unique to the richness and beauty of humanity.
For Carol-Ann Meltzer, music has the ability to remind us of things we sometimes forget, including the value of our own lives and the importance of cherishing one another.
“One of the things music can do is remind us of things we might have forgotten or neglect to realise,” she says. “We are each of us valuable, each of us a miracle. We need to cherish one another, to celebrate one another, and to realise that life is indeed good.”
Carol-Ann Meltzer on the Message Behind “Celebrate Life”
Carol-Ann says she deliberately wrote the song from the perspective of shared humanity rather than focusing on one particular group.
“I did not write this song from the perspective of one particular group of people, but rather from the centre of our shared humanity,” she explains. “I wanted to celebrate people of every culture, every faith, every generation and every background, and anyone who needs a reminder that life is precious and worth celebrating.”
Reflecting on the message she hopes listeners take from the song, Carol-Ann adds: “I hope this song reminds people that every human life has value. When we celebrate one another, we celebrate life itself.”
Her goal is ultimately a simple one: “If you walk away from listening to this song smiling, or even just feeling slightly better than before, then it has done its job.”

What Is Khazimula?
Khazimula is the musical, literary and social upliftment journey created by Carol-Ann Meltzer. The project brings together music, poetry, reflection, storytelling, playlists, publishing and future social impact initiatives, all centred around themes of meaning, light, creativity and human connection.
The name Khazimula is derived from the isiZulu word meaning “to shine” or “to radiate light”. Carol-Ann discovered the word during a visit to the SAMRO offices while searching for a stage name, and it immediately connected with her vision of hope, possibility, colour and the belief that everyone has their own unique light to share.
Carol-Ann Meltzer’s Musical Journey
Music has been part of Carol-Ann’s life since childhood. She participated in school productions, attended the Performing Arts Workshop in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, and spent years collecting melodies, lyrics and ideas on a small dictaphone.
Those early recordings eventually became the foundation for Love It Together, a collection of 24 original songs developed with arranger and producer Bryan Schimmel. Carol-Ann also completed coursework in Lyric Writing with the Berklee College of Music.
The Collaborators Behind Khazimula
A pivotal chapter in Carol-Ann’s musical journey began when longtime friend Neil Solomon introduced her to producer and musician Mark Beling of Mean Mr Mustard.
She has also collaborated with songwriter and vocal coach Anne Steyn, who co-wrote “Tomorrow” and created the first arrangement of “On a Dream”. Vocalist Megan Marks later joined the project, bringing Carol-Ann’s songs to life with warmth, depth and emotional honesty.
What’s Next for Khazimula?
Khazimula is currently releasing original recordings produced by Mark Beling while continuing to expand into storytelling, publishing, curated playlists and social upliftment initiatives.
At the centre of the project is an uplifting philosophy that continues to guide Carol-Ann Meltzer’s creative work: Let Your Colours Shine!
