On the 26th of April I made my way to the April edition of Park Acoustics for 2015. Pre-sold tickets for this event was sold out a day or so before it was hosted and the 400 tickets that were still available at the gate sold out like hotcakes before someone could chant “Samurai”. I finally made it to the top of the hill (Fort Schanskop) around 12 noon and was immediately blown away by the vibey atmosphere.
I arrived in time to catch Tailor’s set and I have to admit that I was amazed. She played a few songs off her second album, a few new tracks and singles off her debut album. Hearing “Wolf” reminded me how good she is live and it didn’t take long before I really got into the vibe.
Next up was Nakhane Toure. This amazing artist (who originally hails from the Eastern Cape) blew the Park Acoustics crowd away with his mesmerizing guitar riffs and he did it in his socks (he did have other clothes on in case you were wondering).
Next up were Bye Beneco. This Johannesburg based act has been making waves in the industry over the last few years and like their set at Up The Creek 2015, this one was a memorable one too. I’m curious to see what they have in store for the SA Music scene the rest of this year.
The last musical act of the day was 2012 Converse Get Out Of The Garage Winner and MK Award nominee, Matthew Mole. A huge crowd gather in front of the stage and it was clear off who the majority of them were waiting for on the day. Mr Mole did not disappoint, playing most of the songs off his debut album, some new songs and some covers (which were better than the originals in my opinion).
It didn’t take the crowd long to sing along. It’s amazing how huge his fan base is in Gauteng. Here’s a video clip of Matthew Mole singing “Take Yours, I’ll take mine”. Just listen to the crowd singing, you’ll be blown away.
Amazing, right? The next edition of Park Acoustics is coming on the 24th of May 2015. Running Wolf’s Rant will be giving away tickets to this show, so watch this space for regular updates in the Music category.
