Webtickets Plugs South African Live Shows Into Spotify Discovery

Webtickets has teamed up with Spotify to strengthen the connection between music discovery and live performance.

The partnership allows upcoming concerts to appear directly within Spotify’s live events ecosystem, with a built-in link that sends fans straight to Webtickets to purchase tickets.

Webtickets

The idea is simple but powerful. When fans are streaming music, relevant live shows can appear at exactly the right moment, turning casual listening into a potential night out. Instead of hunting around for event details, fans can move from discovering music to securing tickets in just a few clicks.

One notable detail is that Webtickets is covering the full integration and technical costs. That means artists and promoters get an additional promotional channel without paying extra or needing complicated third-party tools.

According to Thomas Stavrides, Marketing Manager at Webtickets, visibility remains one of the biggest hurdles in live entertainment.

Creating the show is one thing, but making sure people actually know about it is another. This integration aims to solve that problem by meeting fans where they already are – inside their music apps.

Turning Streams Into Ticket Sales

Streaming platforms continue to dominate how people discover music, and Spotify remains at the centre of that shift. The platform reports more than 700 million monthly active users worldwide, while South African artists are seeing growing international reach and listenership.

Local figures highlight just how significant that growth has become. Spotify’s Loud & Clear reporting shows that South African artists generated around R400 million in royalties in 2024, with local music being discovered by more than 1.1 billion first-time listeners globally.

That kind of discovery creates opportunity, but only if fans can easily take the next step. Jeremy Hewitt, better known as Jeremy Loops, emphasised the importance of bridging the gap between streaming and live performance.

While streaming introduces listeners to new artists, live shows are where lasting connections are built. Making it easier for fans to move from listening to attending a show can have a real impact on an artist’s career.

Supporting Artists and Promoters on the Ground

The move reflects a wider trend across the global music industry. Streaming platforms and ticketing companies are increasingly working together as live performance becomes a major income stream for artists.

Damon Forbes, founder of Breakout Events & Management, pointed out that cutting through the noise has always been a challenge for promoters. With so much content competing for attention, timing is everything. A listener enjoying a song is already engaged, making that moment ideal for offering ticket access.

By opening access to Spotify’s live event discovery tools and removing cost barriers, Webtickets hopes to give artists, promoters, and venues a stronger promotional advantage. The goal is better visibility, stronger fan engagement, and smoother ticket conversions.

Early Results Show Strong Momentum

The integration is already producing measurable results. More than 90,000 tickets per month are currently being sold through referrals originating from Spotify. That number alone suggests that linking music discovery directly to ticket purchasing is more than just a clever idea – it’s proving to be effective.

As engagement continues to grow, the long-term potential looks promising. Every additional stream becomes an opportunity to fill seats, boost artist income, and strengthen the live music ecosystem.

Available to All Webtickets Events

The Webtickets–Spotify integration is now available across all events listed on Webtickets. Artists, promoters, and venues can take part simply by listing their events on the platform, with no special setup required.

For fans, the change means fewer missed shows and fewer excuses for discovering an artist too late. For artists and promoters, it offers a practical way to turn digital attention into real-world attendance – where the music is loud, the crowd is present, and the magic actually happens.
