Spotify has officially launched a new initiative titled Khuphuka nathi kuSpotify, created to honour and amplify Zulu culture, pride, and identity.

At the heart of the campaign lies the isiZulu phrase “Kube ngangemzulu ngayini,” meaning “Who would I be if not Zulu”—a powerful declaration of cultural belonging and self-affirmation.

The Zulu Kingdom has long been celebrated for its cultural richness, bold expression, rhythmic storytelling, and deep-rooted sense of pride. These qualities continue to echo through music, fashion, language, and community life. KwaZulu-Natal isn’t just a province—it’s a way of life, and this initiative seeks to reflect that reality.

A Curated Musical Journey

As part of the Khuphuka nathi kuSpotify initiative, Spotify is spotlighting music that reflects the diversity and depth of Zulu and broader African heritage. From traditional rhythms that honour ancestral roots to modern sounds that speak to today’s experiences, the platform has curated a unique musical catalogue for listeners to explore.

This includes a hero film that invites viewers into a vivid journey of self-discovery, cultural pride, and community connection—soundtracked by songs that celebrate identity and belonging.

Spotify is celebrating Zulu Users Through Music

“This campaign is a love letter to our Zulu-speaking listeners,” says Sithabile Kachisa, Head of Marketing for Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa. “Khuphuka nathi kuSpotify is all about celebrating what it truly means to be Zulu—the pride, the identity, the belonging. Music gives voice to all of this, and we’re honoured to use our platform to share in that journey.”
