Rising Stars Pushing African Music Boundaries in 2025

From Afrobeats to Amapiano: Artists to Watch

The Amapiano wave introduced emerging stars like Scotts Maphuma and Zee Nxumalo, whose standout tracks, “Yebo Lapho” and “Thula Mabota”, placed them at the forefront of local breakout artist charts.

Electro-Amapiano duo Shakes & Les made waves with their debut album MKHAYA, while Soweto’s Lee McKrazy became a fan favorite as one of 2024’s most featured vocalists.

Nigeria’s growing love for Amapiano, as the genre’s second-largest consumer, has inspired crossovers like Ayo Maff with his hit “Are You There”. Rising acts such as Tml Vibez and BoyPee have also embraced the blend of Afropop and traditional rhythms, creating infectious hits like “Ogechi” with Davido.
