The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean. The Golden Gate Bridge was the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1937. The bridge was built between 1933 and 1937 and cost $35 million. The bridge is 2.7 kilometers (1.7 miles) long and 27.4 meters (90 feet) wide. The suspension arches are 227 meters (746 feet) high and the bridge is 67 meters (220 feet) above the water. The bridge is one of California and San Fransisco’s most recognizable landmarks. This photo of the Golden Gate Bridge has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 18th of July 2010.
