Pedro Barbosa recently released his second EP, Journey To Reborn to much critical acclaim. He launched Journey To Reborn with an amazing show at Atterbury Theatre in October 2019.
I recently had a chat to Pedro about a few things. This is what he had to say…
2019 has been a crazy busy year for you. Are you excited for the upcoming holidays? Do you even have a holiday, seeing as how packed your gig calendar is for December?
What holidays? I think I have 4 days off during Christmas and that is about it. It’s a busy December this year. I have 23 official gigs.
Winding down the year, what has been your highlight of 2019?
Finding out I’m gonna be a uncle again to a Princess! 🙂 Definitely winning the Love Song Category for the ISC (International Songwriting Competition) and going to the States for the International Portuguese Music Awards and chilling a bit with Nuno Bettencourt at the after party.
Is there any part of 2019 that Pedro Barbosa would rather want to forget about?
Yes, a few things but they are private and I try to keep that away from the public.
You recently released your new EP, Journey To Reborn (which I have been listening to on repeat for quite a while now). What does this EP mean to you, keeping in mind that Journey To Reborn has been 10 years in the making?
It meant going back to emotions that I hadn’t touched or thought of for many years. And releasing songs that meant a lot to me as a person but I was too scared to release as they were too personal.
This new solo journey is a bit of a test ground for me as a songwriter as well as a platform, but above all its a testament of my emotional side; something people weren’t used to hearing from me. So its a very personal deep project for me.
Does Pedro Barbosa have a personal favourite song off the EP?
That is always a hard question. But if I have to choose, I would say “Cynical and Losing”. All of them are very deep songs for me every time I play them I feel the emotion of the moment I wrote them.
If you could go back with the knowledge you have now and talk to the Pedro Barbosa of 10 years ago, what advice or guidance would you have for him?
Release ‘Reborn’ and ‘Journey To Reborn’ earlier. Practice more, play more. Find a balance between personal life and work life. Quit smoking. I think that is about it.
New year, new me: What does 2020 look like for Pedro Barbosa?
Already looks crazy with gigs till June. The main focus for 2020 is to release a lot more online content videos, etc. And International exposure. Also a project that has been on the pipeline, Afrobrazil might finally take off properly. 🙂
No new albums though, but a couple of singles from The Barbosa Experience will be released. Also I want to lose 20 kilos by June. Doing a 10 dive in the Red Sea and don’t want a shark to confuse me for a whale!
I’d like to thank Pedro Barbosa for this interview and I wish him all of the best.
