Ashley Hilton Jacobs is a multi instrumentalist and songwriter from Belhar, Cape Town, South Africa. He has been on the scene as a bass player for some of the best bands to come out of South Africa He’s played for De Wallen, Son Of Hawk and most recently for Afrikaans Award-Winning Rocker and Songwriter Jan Blohm.
He has played on some of the biggest festivals in South Africa like Oppikoppi. He’s also played sets at Alternatief Is Groot & the Bokkies Awards Show. When the lockdown happened and work was non-existent Ashley did not stop. He decided it was time to start working on his own material. This material had been on ice for ice for years as he was busy touring with other bands and projects as a bassist.

“Even though I have been exposed to alot of things, being able to travel doing what I love (which is music) I returned home to Belhar one day, sat on the stoep and it dawned on me that it all still looked the same as it did when i was growing up. I had flashbacks of being a kid with big dreams. This inspired the song and title of my upcoming full album Child of the Ghetto.”
“Child of the Ghetto” features Ashley Hilton Jacobs on Acoustic Guitar Vocals, Wouter Reyneke on bass, Basson Laubscher on electric guitar, Shaun Viljoen on drums and Lee Berg on backing vocals.
“Child of the Ghetto” was produced by Lee Berg at Deconstructing Adam Studios in Gordon’s Bay and mixed and masterd by Chris Van der Walt at Tempura Studios in Pretoria.

I was lucky enough to hear a live version of “Child Of The Ghetto” about a month ago when Ashley Hitlon Jacobs played a show with Jan Blohm at JARR Bar in Pretoria and I was blown away.
The song conjures up emotion and nostalgia and reminds you that should never forget where you came from. Ashley is very talented and I’m curious to see what he’s going to throw us our way in the future.
