Award-winning South African powerhouse Kelly Khumalo is officially back with new music. Following growing demand from her dedicated fans since the release of her acclaimed album Rebirth, the celebrated singer returns with her first single of 2026, “Merry Go Round”.

“Merry Go Round” puts Kelly’s deeply personal approach to storytelling front and center. Written earlier this year, the track was born from a relationship that stalled into a confusing “situationship”, caught in an endless cycle without progress or a clear conclusion.

Kelly explains that she wrote the track after finding herself in a dynamic that was neither moving forward nor ending. It started to feel exactly like a merry-go-round, prompting the relatable question of where the romance was actually heading. The single was composed by renowned Kinshasa-based producer David Matunda, bringing a distinctively African creative flair to the production.

Kelly Khumalo is Reconnecting with fans

For Kelly, dropping this single is a heartfelt thank you to her loyal supporters. She expresses immense gratitude to the fans who have patiently asked for new material since Rebirth, noting that they have stood by her through every chapter of her journey. Releasing “Merry Go Round” feels like the perfect way to kick off her next musical era.

With ten studio albums under her belt, Kelly Khumalo has built an incredible career entirely on her own terms. Born in Johannesburg, her musical roots trace back to Sunday School choirs and the inspiration of her grandmother, who composed songs for their community while raising 14 grandchildren. Since her 2005 debut album T.K.O., she has blossomed into one of the country’s most recognizable voices.

Moving seamlessly between Afro-pop, gospel, and jazz, she has delivered massive hit songs like “Asine” and “Empini”. Her accolades speak for themselves, including Best Female Artist of the Year at the South African Music Awards and Best Female Album at the Metro FM Awards for My Truth.

True to her mantra, “I run my own race,” Kelly Khumalo continues to defy conventional expectations. “Merry Go Round” is just the beginning, with details of an upcoming summer concert tour across South Africa dropping soon. The new single is now available on all major streaming platforms.
