South African singer-songwriter Dylan Tori has returned with “Lovers of the Dark”, an electrifying new single that pushes sonic and visual boundaries. Released alongside a cinematic music video, the track is Tori’s boldest offering yet — a genre-defying blend of alt-rock, country, bluegrass, and indie-pop that dives headfirst into the seductive clash between comfort and chaos.
“Lovers of the Dark” is inspired by the mythologized bond of Bonnie and Clyde – not their crimes, but their wild, all-consuming devotion. With soaring vocals, gritty instrumentation, and vivid desert visuals, the song captures the emotional tension between stability and desire.

“I wanted to reflect that fire, that longing for something wild and unshackled,” says Dylan Tori. The video brings this to life through stark landscapes, shadowy figures, and a modern outlaw narrative that’s as cinematic as it is raw.
Written as a “romantic outlaw anthem,” the track explores themes of escapism and self-liberation. At its core, it’s about the fantasy of breaking free — from a stale relationship, a safe routine, or societal expectations – and surrendering to the thrill of reckless love.
“My grandmother once told me that, in her forties, she fantasized about riding off naked with a cowboy,” Dylan shares. “She never did, but that longing for something wild lives in all of us.”
Rather than overwhelm with production, Dylan keeps the arrangement stripped-down and singable, letting the story do the heavy lifting. It’s a song that hits the heart before it hits the ear – a cinematic journey into rebellion, romance, and the messy, beautiful places where they overlap.
