South African indie-pop artist Joneaux has officially dropped his latest single, “Run Away,” today, Friday, 12 June. Delivering an energetic, feel-good anthem, the track is packed with the kind of hope and movement that is perfect for the start of your weekend.
“Run Away” blends shimmering indie-pop textures with infectious hooks that are reminiscent of the upbeat spirit found in music by Owl City, Phoenix, and Grouplove. Yet, throughout the track, Joneaux maintains his signature vibrant personality and heartfelt storytelling.
As Joneaux himself puts it, “Run Away is an indie pop track that is an upbeat, inspiring, feel-good song that I hope will get you moving, dancing, and running.”
The Story Behind the Music
Beyond the catchy production, the song carries a powerful message. It tells the story of someone overcoming a difficult past and finding the courage to escape toward a brighter future with their loved one.
Joneaux drew inspiration for the lyrics from someone very close to him, turning personal experiences into a relatable anthem for anyone looking to make a fresh start.
An Independent Spirit
The creation of the single was a true labor of love. Joneaux wrote the track alongside his fiancé, Michaela Vice, and his close friend, Timothy Drew. Recorded in a bedroom studio, the DIY process added an extra layer of sincerity to the project.
The production was handled by independent South African producer Ben Reid and Devon Murray, whose guitar work and production expertise have garnered significant recognition in the local music scene.
“Both of them have been inspirations to me, so having them produce a song with me was absolutely amazing!” Joneaux shared.
