Matthew Mole is part of the Lekkerland Carnival 2023 line-up! It’s happened in Pretoria (at the National Botanical Gardens) on the 13th of May (this week Saturday).
Music fans can also look forward to performances by Prime Circle, Elandré, Irene-Louise van Wyk, Georgetown, Ryno Velvet, Pedro Barbosa and Zaan Sonnekus.
I had a quick chat with Matthew about Lekkerland and a few other things. This is what he had to say.
I love your new track “Good Things” – Did this ever happen to you, something good that happened cause you waited?
“Thank you! Yes, so many times. For me it’s more about persevering when things seem hopeless. There have been toooo many times when it’s seemed like there was no light at the end of the tunnel but I held on to the smallest glimmers of hope and I’m grateful for where I am today.”
You have been in the music scene quite a while now – What were Matthew Mole’s biggest moments so far? Meaning, Heart glowing stuff!
“I’m so thankful for all of the amazing gifts music has given me but the one thing that has always blown me away is when I hear people singing along to my songs whenever I play shows. There is so much about that that I find beautiful.”
Does Matthew Mole has any funny stage moments to share? Something humorous that happened at a live show?
“I have quite a few different instruments set up on the front of the stage and I recently kept falling over a drum and knocking it over. I prefer to see that as funny rather than me messing up the show haha!”
Best live show ever and why?
“Very difficult to single out one show, but I can say that Pretoria is always one of my ultimate favourite places to play purely because Pretoria mense are amazing.”
How does Matthew Mole prepare for a show? Do you have a specific routine for show days?
“Nothing specific, but I am always nervous before a show. The only thing that helps is going onto stage and starting the show. I looove the fact that I get nervous though, never want that to fade.”
Fans are looking forward to see you at Lekkerland Carnival this weekend. What can they expect from Matthew Mole’s set?
“I’m also looking so forward to the show! I’ll be playing some new songs as well as songs that they will hopefully recognise! I’ll try to get the Lekkerland audience involved in as many of the songs as I can.”
Which are acts on the Lekkerland Carnival 2023 line-up are you looking forward to?
“Trick question, obviously the entire line up! Haha but I am looking forward to seeing Elandre live, his voice is something else.”
What are your plans for the next 3 months?
“Lots of writing, I have a few new releases coming out this year. Lots of touring, also because that’s the best way to test out the songs!”
What is your life motto/mantra? Or, a short sentence to sum up…LIFE
“Don’t worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself.”
I would like to thank Matthew Mole for this interview. I wish him all of the best with his set at Lekkerland Carnival 2023 and his future musical endeavors.
