Oris Watches: 7 Frequently Asked Questions

Oris SA is a luxury maker of mechanical watches that are based in Switzerland. The brand was founded in 1904 by Georges Christian and Paul Cattin in a Swiss town of Holstein. The two of them named their watch brand after a book nearby, and that is when they began their industrial manufacturing of pocket watches. When it opened, Oris hired only 67 people.

By 1911, the watch brand had become the biggest company in Holstein that employed over 300 workers. For them to be able to attract more watchmakers, they built houses and apartments where their employees would be able to live. The company expanded so quickly that by the year 1929, it had already decided to add more factories.

    What Type of Movement?

They use various types of mechanical movements. If what you wanted to ask was whether Oris utilizes Quartz movement, our reply to that is negative. They only manufacture timepieces that are only powered by springs.

    Are they In-House Movements?

Most of the watches manufactured are derived from ébauche movements. These are templates of some sort where Oris obtain an incomplete movement that is adaptable. It allows the brand to add their own and unique features to serve the needs of the user.

However, this is not a reason for you to think that the brand’s movements are somehow inferior to other watch brands. ETA makes significant movements, and Oris manufactures amazing upgrades to them. Some people believe that  a brand’s prestige is directly associated with how many of the company’s parts are made totally in-house.

    Who Manufactures Oris Watches?

Oris watches are manufactured in Switzerland.  These genuine Swiss-made watches  made by the company Oris SA is privately owned since 1906. Oris watches are manufactured in a building located at Ribigasse 1, CH-4424 Hölstein, Switzerland.

The company’s main building is located on the exact same spot since the two have decided to open a store in 1904 and is continuously expanding to assist the needs of the ever-rising company.

    Are Oris Watches Good?

The brand makes amazing watches, and a lot of people would even compare Oris watches with TAG Heuer or Longines watches. The movement of the watch can be seen with the distinct red rotors in them. Oris watches are known to be adaptable with watches in a lot of classifications that fall in one of four types: Aviation, Motorsport, Culture, and Diving.

The Aviation Collection is mainly for aviators, pilots, and aeronauts. The collection for Motorsports is mainly for professionals in Motor Racing, race car drivers, and etc. The diving collection is for professional swimmers, scuba divers, and other underwater activities. And lastly, the Culture collection has a classic look in tribute to cultural influences.

    Are Oris Watches Accurate?

The accuracy of a watch is entirely dependent on how it is regulated. Oris movements, whether it is ETA based movement or a Selitta based caliber, can be regulated with the variable limitation of accuracy consistent with some of the top-notch watches in the market.

Oris is very reliable, and some of these watches come with a certification from COSC.

    Why Are They So Expensive?

Oris watches are considered to be somewhat an affordable luxury, compared to luxury brands such as Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Omega, or Rolex. They are mechanical watches that give the consumers value in their money with high-quality.

Compared to other luxury watch brands, Oris is located at the most affordable part if we put into consideration the value of their watches that they provide. Oris watches are well priced and start off at $1150. It is important to take note that Oris only makes mechanical watches.

Are Oris Watches Worth the Price?

Oris watches possibly give you the best value when it comes to the value that they offer. Other watch brands such as TAG Heuer only offer a battery-powered quartz watch, so the answer to whether Oris watches are worth it is a huge and massive yes!

Oris watches will surely exceed your expectation of what you would normally expect for their lower price tags when being compared to other luxury watch brands that are Swiss made with very similar features. They also have a 2-year warranty, and you might consider these watches as a value-added luxury brand that can be found on the more affordable luxury side.

    Takeaway

Are some of your questions already answered? It’s always a matter of personal choice whether you like a certain watch or not. Some people tend to buy something because of the brand, and not even bother checking the reviews or feedbacks about them, and just straight away purchase the item because it is a well-known brand.
