South African rock heavyweights Prime Circle have dropped their brand-new music video for “Renegade”, the high-octane opener to their latest album.

A thunderous anthem of self-liberation, “Renegade” traces the journey from emotional manipulation to empowered clarity.

With lyrics like “I won’t be your puppet” and “I’ve now become the renegade”, the track is both a personal battle cry and a rallying call for those ready to stand on their own.

Shot during their 2025 European tour, the “Renegade” video delivers a gritty, behind-the-scenes look at life on the road—juxtaposing backstage moments with raw, sweat-soaked live performances.

Directed by Germany’s Chris Güthlein, the video reflects the same unfiltered energy and spirit of defiance that pulses through the song.

International media are taking notice. Powerplay Magazine (UK) hailed the track as “a catchy, hugely enjoyable, fun modern alternative rocker full of energy with fab vocals from Gavin Edwards.”

It follows the band’s earlier single “What We Got”, which made waves on 32 South African radio stations and racked up more than 38 million impressions (Radiomonitor).

With support from both commercial and community radio—from youth stations to adult contemporary—Prime Circle continues to defy age brackets and genre boundaries.

“Seventeen Months In…”

Frontman Gavin Edwards, who joined the band in 2024, says, “Seventeen months in for me—we’ve released a 10-track album, toured our incredible home country, played shows in Dubai, Europe, Namibia, and Portugal, filmed five videos, and stood in front of crowds singing every word—and I’m incredibly grateful for it all. This video shows the real work behind those magic moments. It’s a testament to this journey.”

Keyboardist Neil Breytenbach adds, “To everyone who turned our ‘rise against’ into your own battle cry—this video is your story too.”

The Album: The World We Know

Their latest album, The World We Know, captures Prime Circle at a powerful new peak. Produced by long-time German collaborator Timon Seidl and engineered by South Africa’s Howie Combrink, the record balances massive hooks with emotionally raw songwriting.

It marks a sonic evolution driven in part by Gavin Edwards’ co-writing and vocal firepower—merging the band’s arena-ready rock with personal, introspective themes of love, loss, rebirth, and resistance.

More info about Prime Circle

Formed in 2001, Prime Circle have become one of South Africa’s most iconic rock exports—racking up platinum plaques, radio dominance, and a legacy that includes sharing stages with Metallica, Live, Seether, and Collective Soul. Their anthems have echoed from local venues to European festivals, and even the historic 46664 Nelson Mandela concert.

Now armed with a refreshed lineup—Gavin Edwards (vocals/guitar), Dirk Bisschoff (guitar), Marco Gomes (bass), Neil Breytenbach (keys), and Dale Schnettler (drums)—Prime Circle are charging into their next chapter with sharpened precision and undeniable fire.
