Tresor (French for “treasure” and pronounced “Trezor”) was born as Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki and is an award winning and multi platinum selling DRC born singer-songwriter-producer currently based in South Africa. His first language is Music, but he is also fluent in English, French and Swahili. His songs reflect a peregrine of life shared by so many on the continent of Africa, but few are able to express their experiences in a way that captures the ear so universally and directly.
Not long after his journey south from the heart of Africa, Tresor was performing alongside Eddie Grant, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Freshlyground, Prime Circle, Just Jinjer, Goldfish, Vusi Mahlasela, Lira, HHP and Johnny Clegg (to name just a few).
His debut Single ‘Complete’ described by many music industry professionals as a ‘Summer Anthem’ has received rave reviews locally and internationally; the song was play listed on many major radio stations nationally and the video was shot by the award winning video production company iKind Media at the prestigious Durban City Hall. The video enjoyed massive rotation on major media networks such as MK, MTV Base and Channel O.
Tresor is one of the artists who will be be performing at Liefde By Die Dam 2017 this Sunday (the 6th of August 2017). I had a chat to him about this and a few other things. This is what he had to say:
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
I make African Pop Music. It’s a new age fusion of sounds from all over Africa I’m on a mission to rejuvenate the African Pop sound.
What are your thoughts on the state of SA music today?
The state of SA music is great and just keeps getting better. I love the sound coming out of South Africa right now and I think the future is bright. I truly cannot wait to see more home grown talents taking over the world with our sound. The world needs it.
What is the most interesting thing that’s ever happened to you during a live show?
When I was touring with Seal in Cape Town, we lost power during the set, so I started jamming a Bob Marley song on an acoustic guitar. It turned into an epic experience!
What can music lovers expect from your set at Liefde By Die Dam 2017?
We are bringing the best live experience of African pop music like never before seen. My new band, The Legends 80, will give the fans the most fun and exciting live music experience. It’s going to be wild.
I’d like to thank Tresor for this interview and I wish him all of the best with his future musical endeavours.
