The Cape Wine Auction 2026 once again demonstrated the power of purpose-driven luxury, raising an impressive R10.6 million during a spectacular weekend hosted at Nederburg Wine Estate.

This brings the total raised since the inaugural event in 2014 to an extraordinary R152.8 million, reinforcing the Cape Wine Auction’s status as one of South Africa’s most prestigious and impactful charitable events.

Cape Wine Auction 2026

Cape Wine Auction Trust chairman Paul Clüver reflected on the milestone, saying the twelfth edition reaffirmed the event’s role as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the Cape Winelands. He noted that the generosity of donors and bidders continues to drive meaningful change through education and social upliftment initiatives.

A Weekend of Wine, Energy and Celebration

From the Saturday morning Barrel Auction to the main event and the high-energy Celebration Party, the weekend delivered a seamless blend of fine wine, philanthropy and entertainment.

According to Director Darielle Robertson, the atmosphere remained electric throughout. Guests embraced the occasion, with live performances by Mi Casa and Lloyiso keeping the dance floor packed well into the night.

The event once again proved that serious fundraising and unforgettable celebration can exist in the same room — and thrive.

The Big-Ticket Experiences

The 2026 auction featured a collection of once-in-a-lifetime experiences that drew competitive bidding from attendees.

The standout lot was the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix VIP Experience, which included Paddock Club™ access to the Formula 1® Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026, pit lane walks, track tours, exclusive access to F1® personalities, luxury hospitality and four nights’ accommodation. Generously donated by Heineken Beverages, the experience sold for R1.3 million.

An almost two-metre-tall Anton Smit bronze sculpture titled In Moment II – a Life-Size Bronze, depicting a figure with outstretched arms, fetched R650,000.

Three separate seven-night stays in a Classic Collection Villa by The Hideaways Club — offering a choice of destinations across Asia, Europe or Africa with dedicated concierge services — each sold for R600,000.

The Côte du Cap Experience, a private coastal escape for eight guests including chartered flights from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay and a four-night stay at the ultra-luxurious Côte du Cap villa with private chef and concierge, achieved R420,000.

Other notable lots included:

  • A four-night luxury journey through Oregon’s Willamette Valley in the US (R320,000)
  • A three-night Zambezi River escape at Thorntree River Lodge in Zambia, complete with a hosted sommelier experience (R240,000)
  • The AdVini France Domaine Laroche Experience in Chablis for six guests (R230,000)

Nederburg’s Commitment to Impact

As host venue, Nederburg Wine Estate played a central role in the weekend’s success.

General Manager Kate Jackson expressed pride in hosting the event and witnessing the generosity that defines it. She emphasised that the funds raised reflect not only the passion of the wine community but also a shared commitment to driving meaningful change through education in the Cape Winelands.

Jackson added that Nederburg remains deeply committed to supporting the auction’s purpose and ensuring its continued growth and impact, describing it as an honour to provide a home for an initiative that unites wine, community and philanthropy.

The Cape Wine Auction 2026 Was More Than an Auction

Widely regarded as South Africa’s most extraordinary international wine event, the Cape Wine Auction brings together global wine enthusiasts for exclusive wine, travel, art and culinary experiences — all in support of education and social upliftment initiatives in the Cape Winelands.
