SAMA-nominated Cape Town punk-rockers The Medicine Dolls have officially returned with an unhinged, high-octane new single and accompanying music video, “Twisted By The Sound”.
If you are looking for an easy way to describe the sound of this latest offering, the band has already done the hard work, describing the track as a sonic space where Ashnikko collaborates with The Cramps.
From the moment the track kicks in, it launches into a loud, filthy, and deliberately over-the-top collision of bratty modern pop attitude and grimy psychobilly swagger.
“Twisted By The Sound” refuses to fit neatly into a single genre box. Instead, it smashes provocative pop energy head-on into reverb-drenched, trashy garage-rock grit, resulting in a contemporary alternative anthem that refuses to behave itself.
More info about The Medicine Dolls
Formed in Cape Town in 2016, The Medicine Dolls have built a solid reputation on a raw, high-voltage sound that blends punk, post-punk, and surf-tinged rock.
Rooted in the spirit of the 1970s and 1980s but delivered with a modern South African edge, the band is well known for their ferocious live performances and confrontational theatrical attitude.
Their signature DIY ethos was perfectly captured in their 2020 SAMA-nominated debut album, Filth and Wisdom. The statement record established the group as a serious force within the South African alternative rock scene, and they continue to carve out their place on the country’s live circuit.
Surreal Visuals
The accompanying music video reunites The Medicine Dolls with acclaimed director Ryan Kruger. Continuing a creative relationship that has produced some of the band’s most striking visual work, Kruger brings a cinematic and surreal approach to the track.
The final product creates a visual world that perfectly matches the manic energy, theatricality, and warped sense of humor found in the single.
