As football fans look forward to the season, many questions like how it will affect the 2022 World Cup calendar, the key fixtures to look out for, and the thrilling title race. Important to note is that there will be several changes to the schedule to accommodate the 2022 World Cup finals.

    Premier League

To take you back to the previous season, Manchester City took the title home; for the second time in a row. This season, they are expected to face Liverpool. There is a lot of excitement around the fight for the title, and here are some highlights you need to be aware of.

    1. There Will be a Six-Week Break

Will the Premier League take a break? This is among the top questions from fans. For one, you may have noticed that the season starts a week earlier than the previous campaign. And for the first time, the Premier League will take a break of not less than six weeks to accommodate the Winter World Cup in Qatar.

Another interesting bit is that this will also be the first Winter World Cup. The tournament has, however, been placed in the middle of the Premier League season. The World Cup begins on November 21 2022, and runs until December 2 2022. Your favorite Premier League players will be released to attend to their international duties.

If you are wondering why the 2022 World Cup will take place in winter. The high summer temperatures in Qatar could be uncomfortable for the players and make it impossible for them to play.

    2. When does the 2022/2023 Premier League Season Start and Finish?

As aforementioned, the season’s Premier League will start a week earlier than the previous season. This is due to the mid-season commitments the players will have in Qatar. The season, therefore, kicks off on August 6.

This means that the players also get to enjoy almost two-month breaks. Pre-season training will be slotted for this time. On November 12, Premier League will halt as the attention shifts to the World Cup. The top-tier players playing in the World Cup Series 2022 will be allowed to go for a break before the Premier League resumes on December 26 from the November 21 to December 18 World Cup action.

After resuming, the season’s action will continue until May 28, 2023. Note that as it is customary, matches fixed for the final day of the season will all be played simultaneously.

    3. Which are the 2022/2023 Season Premier League Clubs?

The 2022/2023 Premier League season playing field is set. Three teams have been promoted to the Premier League. That is Bournemouth, Fulham, and Nottingham Forest. Fulham has been absent from the race for one year, Nottingham Forest for twenty-three years, and Bournemouth for two years.

It is worth mentioning that promotion to the Premier League comes with an estimated $200 million for each club. There will also be parachute payments by the Premier League for the next three seasons in case of relegation. The three teams will be replacing Burley, Norwich City, and Watford, previously relegated from the race.

Twenty teams, including the three teams replacing the relegated ones, will compete in the 2022/2023 season.

    Team Stadium
    Arsenal Emirates Stadium
    Aston Villa Villa Park
    Bournemouth Dean Court
    Brentford Brentford Community Stadium
Brighton & Hove Albion Falmer Stadium
    Chelsea Stamford Bridge
    Crystal Palace Selhurst Park
    Everton Goodison Park
    Fulham Craven Cottage
    Leeds United Elland Road
    Leicester City King Power Stadium
    Liverpool Anfield
    Manchester City Etihad Stadium
    Manchester United Old Trafford
    Newcastle United St James’ Park
    Nottingham Forest City Ground
    Southampton St Mary’s Stadium
    Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
    West Ham United London Stadium
    Wolverhampton Wanderers Molineux Stadium

    4. When will the Transfer Window Open and Close?

Transfers were introduced to protect the contractual stability of the clubs and the players by allowing movements only at specific times of the year. That is the summer and winter transfer windows. The period open lasts for about two and a half months.

This was considered a better approach than enforcing notice periods and allowing players to move at will, which would hurt the football economy and discourage clubs from investing in players.

The summer 2022/2023 transfer window was open on Friday, June 10, and will close on September 1 2022. During this period, the clubs can transfer and buy players. Several clubs have already registered new players.

Liverpool has welcomed three new players from Fulham, Benfica, and Aberdeen. That is Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez, and Calvin Ramsay, respectively.

AFC Bournemouth has signed defender Ryan Fredricks from West Ham on a two-year contract and midfielder Joe Rothwell on a two-year contract. Five players, Gary Cahill, Brennan Camp, Conor Kurran- Brown, Ryan Glover, and Luke Nippard, will be released at the end of their contracts.

    Conclusion

In addition to the mid-season break inspired by the World Cup, the other new development in the season is the return of five substitutes to the season. In the 2020/2021 season, the substitutes were limited to three due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Votes have, however, been cast for things to return to the norm. There are tons of amazing games in the season and exciting features to look forward to.
