Electric Callboy is a German electronicore band. They have been around for more than a decade and they take a more relaxed approach to the genre. They are known for their comedic songs, live shows and videos.

There’s probably a lot that you don’t know about this band, but today my aim is to change that…

Here are 16 Interesting Facts You Might Not Know about Electric Callboy

1. The band was originally known as Eskimo Callboy (from 2010 to 2022). The name was chosen because the band’s members wanted a name that would be memorable and easy to remember.

2. In March 2022, the band changed the word ‘Eskimo’ to ‘Electric’ because it can be seen as a derogatory name for the Inuit and Yupik people in Alaska. They subsequently re-released the artwork from their previous albums with their new name.

3, The band was founded in 2010 in Castrop-Rauxel, Germany. It’s a former coal mining city in the Eastern part of the Ruhr Area.

4. The first self-titled EP was self-released in 2010 and was distributed via EMP.

5. To date Electric Callboy have released 6 studio albums: Bury Me in Vegas (2012), We Are the Mess (2014), Crystals  (2015), The Scene (2017), Rehab (2019) and Tekkno (2022).

6. Kevin Ratajczak, Daniel “Danskimo” Haniß, Pascal Schillo, Daniel Klossek and Nico Sallach are the current members of Electric Callboy. Michael “Micha” Malitzki, David-Karl Friedrich, Sebastian “Sushi” Biesler are previous members of the band.

7. Electric Callboy has toured extensively, playing shows across Europe, Australia and North America.

8. On 6 December 2021, the band announced via their Twitter account that they submitted their song “Pump It” into the German national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, but unfortunately they were not included in the final list of participants.

9. Their 2022 album Tekkno entered the German charts at No. 1 in the first week after release. In the following week, they had to postpone their UK/France Tour as well as cancelling their participation on the US Level-Up tour with Attack Attack!. Nico Sallach (their singer) had a jaw and middle ear infection at the time.

10. The lyrics of Electric Callboy‘s songs deal with themes such as getting drunk, parties, and sex. The band actually called their music “Porno Metal” (in an interview with the German magazine FUZE). Their former vocalist Sebastian Biesler said that their lyrics only use clichés in a satirical way.

11. Electric Callboy‘s song “Hypa Hypa” was released as the lead single for their 2019 album Rehab. It’s a a high-energy party anthem with heavy use of electronic beats and catchy, repetitive lyrics. The song’s chorus has become a popular catchphrase and meme on social media platforms like TikTok.

The song’s video has reached more than 31 million views on YouTube. “Hypa Hypa” was inspired by the band’s love of partying and their desire to create a song that would get people up and dancing.

12. “We Are The Mess” is the title track and the second single from Eskimo Callboy’s second studio album. The song features elements of electronicore, metalcore, and pop music, with catchy synth melodies, heavy breakdowns, and clean vocal hooks.

The song’s lyrics deal with themes of rebellion, self-expression, and living life on your own terms, with the chorus featuring the lyrics “We are the mess, we gotta get up, get out, and get something”.

13. Electric Callboy has more than 277,000 followers on Instagram. Despite their success, the members of the band remain down-to-earth and have a close relationship with their fans.

14. In 2024, the band released a collaboration with Japanese band Babymetal titled “Ratatata,” which quickly gained popularity, hitting #1 on YouTube Trends shortly after its release.

15. Electric Callboy incorporates multiple costume and wig changes during their shows, enhancing the visual appeal and entertainment value. They also use creative screen images and strobe lighting effects, alongside confetti blasts, to create an immersive experience that captivates the audience.

16. On 29 April 2025, longtime drummer David-Karl Friedrich announced his departure from Electric Callboy after 13 years with the band, stating his intention to pursue a new direction in life. The band confirmed they would continue performing with a new drummer.
