South African singer-songwriter Janie Bay has returned with a deeply personal new release titled “Nevermind”, a soft pop track that captures a moment of emotional vulnerability and reflection.
The song was written during a difficult period in Janie’s life, when a series of heartbreaking events unfolded in quick succession. In her own words, the song came from a place of trying to find air while feeling emotionally overwhelmed.

“I wrote ‘Nevermind’ at a time where it felt like I was under water, trying to get back to the surface to catch my breath,” she explains. “One of my best friends, Jan Bloukaas, had passed away. A few days later, my partner’s father passed, a friend’s son died, and there were other disappointments happening at the same time. The experience was so intense that ‘Nevermind’ honestly just fell out of me while I was lying on my bed one afternoon.”
The result is a song that speaks directly to anyone carrying the weight of difficult moments. With its gentle, introspective sound, “Nevermind” offers a sense of shared understanding during challenging times.
“If you are feeling the weight of the world and everything that is going on right now, this one’s for you,” she adds.
Janie Bay has long been a recognised voice in the South African music scene
The Pretoria-based artist, originally from Cape Town, has spent more than a decade building a career defined by emotional songwriting and genre-blending sounds that move between alternative rock and electro-pop.
She released her debut album I Remember in 2011, which produced multiple number one hits on local radio. Since then, her sound has continued to evolve, expanding beyond alternative rock into electronic pop influences.
Over the years, Janie Bay has collaborated with a wide range of South African artists, including Majozi, Early B, and Bouwer Bosch, further showcasing her versatility as both a songwriter and performer.
Her 2018 album Miscellany earned her a South African Music Award nomination, while her song “Can’t Be The One” received international recognition when it won an award at the Queen Palm International Film Festival.
With “Nevermind”, Janie Bay offers one of her most emotionally transparent releases to date. The single captures the quiet moment where grief, exhaustion, and honesty meet – and transforms it into music that listeners can hold onto when life feels overwhelming.
You can stream/download the track on Spotify and all other major streaming platforms.
