Upcoming Cape Town based singer songwriter Keanan Eksteen releases the video for this new single “Dixie Clouds”. Born and raised in the small town of Kraaifontein with the longing to expand his horizons and escape the monotony of small-town life Keanan turned to music.

Musicality runs in his family with his dad playing in a band for as long as he can remember and his grandfather playing guitar, Keanan grew up with The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty as a soundtrack.

The song is about reflecting on how we deal with indecisiveness regarding falling in and out of love, how we cope with it, healthy or not, and what we take from it. The song is self-reflection on the worst ways we can handle certain situations.

    Keanan Eksteen explains “Dixie Clouds”

“The inspiration behind it has been countless loves lost, due to either boredom or the longing for something more out there, only then to realize when it’s too late that perhaps the love you ran from had something you needed all along. The song is, in its truest form, self-reflection on how we deal with our own self-made issues, and how it affects the person(s) involved.”

Director Tarryn Doherty delves into her motivation for the tracks eye catching video

“I wanted to create a narrative around the idea of a cat and mouse game between two lovers and construct a concept that captured the playfulness as well as sinister aspects of love and its contradictions. Essentially our protagonist is held hostage by his thoughts and feelings and inability to let go of a love lost and we follow the journey of his love interest endeavouring to save him, ultimately revealing that she is the entity he needed to escape from. Love is always a fun theme to delve into because of its complexities – it’s multi-layered and sticky and easy and wonderful and horrible and worth writing a song about.”

    More info about Keanan Eksteen

As a quiet kid that lived a lot in his head, Keanan Eksteen’s dad taught him how to play the guitar around the age of 11, hooked on the guitar and the way he felt when he played, it soon became a vice, and then a passion.

As a boy of few words the guitar seemed to ignite a fire, the words that used to be trapped in his head came tumbling out and he discovered a love for writing poetry and lyrics and more importantly the ability to express himself in a way that might resonate with others.

Keanan Eksteen comments on his musical journey

“My song writing started off slow, I found myself very interested in lyrics that were symbolic, or cryptic, the kind that forces you to find your own meaning or forces you to look at things through a different lens. The songs I write now mostly reflect how we view ourselves, and a lot of it is self-reflection.”

“I feel a connection with putting myself in the shoes of another to try and bring some truth that I have not yet experienced. My music is my most honest and raw form of who I am and my thoughts and feelings about love, the self, family and life itself. I never wish to drown in the dense music industry we have today, therefor I am always looking for new and exciting ways to write a song and share it with the world.”
