South African singer-songwriter Amy Tjasink has returned to the corridors and classrooms of her youth with the official music video for “Valley Girl”, the nostalgic title track from her latest album, Valley Girl.
Filmed on location at Fish Hoek High School, the video delivers a powerful story about growing up, finding your voice, and embracing where you come from.
A Celebration of Community and Local Talent
The vibrant music video is packed with young talent, choreography, and the excitement of chasing a dream. It features an ensemble cast of rising South African performers, including Sophia Frank, Eva Marie, Mbali Rose, Kelsey Maggot, Keely Crocker, Kathryn Hallock, and Gabriela Dos Santos, who also created the choreography.
Real Fish Hoek High School students feature prominently, with theatre talents Emma Porter and Arun Bothma taking part, while the school’s Backstage Team handled sound and lighting for the variety concert scenes.
For Amy Tjasink, involving the school community was vital in celebrating the friendships and people who shape us along the way.
Full-Circle Moments and Embracing Your Roots
The video captures relatable teenage experiences, including a poignant moment where watching another performer audition sparks self-doubt – a feeling familiar to anyone striving to pursue a dream.
The production also brought an unexpected full-circle moment with student Emma Porter, who first met Amy Tjasink as a young girl at a live performance years ago before reuniting on set as a co-star.
Ultimately, “Valley Girl” is a tribute to self-belief, community, and belonging, proving that home was part of the dream all along as Amy Tjasink proudly celebrates being a valley girl.
