Adding to an already exciting year, Amy Tjasink has been nominated for Best Local Musician in the KFM Best of the Cape Awards 2026, a recognition that holds special significance for the Cape Town-born artist.
Reflecting on the nomination, Amy shared: “Being nominated as Best Local Musician hits my heart strings differently. Knowing that my home town and city supports this crazy musical dream of mine brings a whole different meaning to the work I’m doing in music. I just feel so incredibly honored and happy to be bringing joy through music ❤️”

Valley Girl Celebrates Cape Town’s Deep South
Having firmly established herself within the South African music landscape, Amy is renowned for her authentic storytelling, heartfelt performances and ability to capture the essence of South African life through song.
Following the nationwide success of “Feels Like Mzansi”, which became one of South Africa’s favourite summer anthems in 2025, and the deeply moving “Shadows of the Sun”, written in honour of her father, Amy now returns with her most personal and home-inspired release to date.
Written and performed entirely by Amy Tjasink, Valley Girl serves as a musical memoir of her life in Cape Town’s Deep South.
Through songs such as “Kommetjie Boys” and the title track “Valley Girl”, she paints vivid portraits of the friendships, adventures, characters and sense of belonging that define this unique coastal community, while introducing a fresh pop sound filled with irresistible hooks.

Amy Tjasink also releases the music video for “Kommetjie Boys” today. Directed by Amy and Josh Adams, the video was created with one simple mission: to capture the real feeling of Kommetjie and its people.
Rather than a heavily produced set, the pair took the song into the community, exploring the streets and coastline and connecting with locals along the way.
A spontaneous encounter with a group of surfers at a local surf shop saw them join the cast, while Arianna Carini and Siyoli Waters joined Amy to form a makeshift band, performing at various locations around the village.
The result is a spontaneous, playful and authentic celebration of Kommetjie and the broader Deep South.
Rooted in Amy’s teenage memories of school friends, summer days and community, “Kommetjie Boys” celebrates the idea that home is where our roots are.
“We really just wanted to capture the feeling of Kommetjie,” says Amy Tjasink. “Not create something that looked like Kommetjie, but actually capture what it feels like to be there: the people, the characters, the ocean, the freedom and that sense of community.”

“The concept hit me during a drive back to see my family,” Amy Tjasink shares regarding her inspiration. “Winding through the valley, I was flooded with teenage memories and realized I had to write about this place. The song was taking shape before I even reached my front door.”
Drawing from the infamous “Round Parties” thrown by local friends, the track is an ode to youthful abandon, surf culture, warm summer nights, and the tight-knit bonds unique to the Deep South.
Co-produced with Theo Mulder at Amy’s Westlake studio, Pretty Loud HQ, “Kommetjie Boys” was designed to radiate the warm, breezy, and vibrant energy of the coast itself.
