Lost//Youth is set to hit the road for a national tour in support of their critically acclaimed second EP, First Light. Known for their unique fusion of raw 90s rock energy with classic 70s sounds, the Cape Town-based band is ready to bring their distinct brand of alternative rock to cities across the country in October and November 2024.

Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Alanna Joy, whose fierce yet tender vocal style explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery.

Accompanied by the melodic bass of Charlie Charles and the driving, passionate guitar of Faghri Hendricks, the band has finally solidified its lineup with drummer James Turner, a seasoned musician who has performed with well-known South African acts such as Cistamatic and Girls on Film.

The group’s sound combines nostalgia with modern elements, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving listening experience.

Following the success of their debut EP Chasing Shadows, Lost//Youth released First Light on the 3rd of May 2024, to widespread praise from fans and critics alike. The EP has been featured on multiple radio stations and playlists, with Earmilk hailing it as a “poignant journey through the complexities of the human experience.”

The First Light tour will mark Lost//Youth’s fifth national tour and will see them performing alongside some of South Africa’s top local acts, including Indie Dog and Dan Patlansky.

The band is eager to reconnect with fans across the country, with lead singer Alanna Joy expressing her excitement, “We are so excited to hit the road for our fifth South African tour. It’s been in the works for a while now and it’s incredible to see it all come together.

“We’re especially looking forward to sharing the stage with some of our favorite local bands, including Indie Dog, who helped inspire our first-ever national tour. We can’t wait to create more unforgettable memories with our fans.”

Catch Lost//Youth on the following tour dates:

  • 25/10 – Durban – Robsons Real Beer with Poster Boy, Houseplants & more (7 PM)

First Light is the second chapter in Lost//Youth’s two-part concept project exploring the themes of light and dark. While their debut EP Chasing Shadows delved into heavier, more introspective themes, First Light offers a brighter, more hopeful perspective, showcasing the band’s growth both musically and lyrically.

Recorded by Ruan Vos and Alanna Joy and mixed by Sloani, the EP is a testament to the band’s ability to balance intimacy with explosive crescendos, creating a soundscape that mirrors the duality of life itself. Alanna Joy’s soulful vocals and introspective lyrics shine through in tracks like “Cold” and “Bittersweet,” resonating with listeners on a deeply personal level.

With First Light, Lost//Youth continue to push boundaries, blending their softer folk influences with the heavier rock sound that dominates their live performances. The result is a body of work that is as emotionally charged as it is musically diverse, solidifying their place as one of South Africa’s most exciting alternative rock acts.
