Mann Friday’s latest video won big at two international film festivals and was officially selected by an additional two major film festivals.

It’s been a momentous week for Mann Friday and their latest single “Fight For Me” as the heartfelt video scooped a major award, winning Best Music Video at the Cannes World Film Festival as well as the Berlin Indie Film Festival.

The video was also selected to be screened in the Best Music Video category at the London International Short Film Festival from 25 November to 1 December, and it was screened at the Woman Directors Film Carnival this past weekend.

Produced by Zimbabwe-based company, Obscura Productions and directed by Kalai Faye Barlow, the video features a cast of children (Thulani Nengo, Natsirai Maricha, Bella Pilch, Malakai Pilch and Mufaro Mudzamira) who recreate memorable scenes from some of the most iconic movies of all time namely Titanic, The Avengers: Endgame, The Matrix, 300, The Shining, The Karate Kid, Fight Club, to name a few.

Watch the video below:

Kalai (the director) explains the video for “Fight For Me”

“Film allows us a glimpse into windows of worlds we may not otherwise have access to. It was a joy to approach a concept through the lens of a child, to get lost in the magic of creative abandon. I feel that this piece is a testament to Zimbabwean resilience, innovation and soul.”

Rob Burrell (the frontman of Mann Friday comments

“It’s truly rewarding seeing ‘Fight For Me’ triumph at some of these awards–I’ve always felt in my bones that this track, though borne of such hardship, was a lucky charm that could perform some magic–the team at Obscura have really rubbed the genie’s lamp on this gem of a video.”

Filmed in an empty warehouse in Harare, Zimbabwe, the children use nothing but their imaginations and a few ingenious costumes and props to entertain themselves, and us, as their wildly infectious attitudes radiate positivity and amplify the song’s core message, which is to not give up in the face of adversity.
