Nic Billington has released his much anticipated single “You Get Me High” along with an incredibly stylish and edgy music video.

They say it takes 10 years to become an overnight success. Add another 10 years and you’ll quickly understand the sheer determination, talent and impeccable work ethic behind South African musician, Nic Billington.

When it came to forging ahead in a cutthroat industry, Nic’s ingenious plan of creating covers and broadcasting them on YouTube quickly won him a large online following, even grabbing the attention of American pop icon, Britney Spears, who featured one of Nic’s covers on her official website in 2008.

After a string of successful chart toppers, musical accolades, a critically- acclaimed debut album, and more recently, a number 1 hit with “Wish You Well”, Nic Billington is back serving us raspy vocals, falsetto harmonies and 80s undertones with the release of his brand-new single, “You Get Me High”.

An unambiguous far cry from the singer’s previous releases, “You Get Me High” sees Nic venture into a darker and more mysterious space, epitomising the personal struggles and hardships that he has faced over the years.

Nic Billington comments on “You Get Me High”

“I wanted this to be my first new release because it’s somewhat unexpected. Everything about this song is just so fresh and authentic – and it’s a great representation of who I am at this moment in time.”

His musical influences include Labrinth, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish. He describes the new song as edgy, hypnotic, and effortless. Co-written with Paul Gala and Mia van Wyk, the songs speak about taking chances on a new relationship – despite getting hurt in the past.

Supported by a relentless Knight Rider-esque beat, Nic’s effortless vocals and otherworldly dreamy synths conjure up multiple contrasting feelings of melancholia and upliftment, future and past – making this the perfect soundtrack for a midnight drive.

The single is accompanied by a stunning monochromatic visual that artistically showcases the singer in a variety of different scenarios – each with a dark twist.

Nic Billington comments on the music video for “You Get Me High”

“I really wanted to include a few unsettling moments throughout the video to create some tension or suspense. These scenes depict the dangers that come with falling in love. I also got to work with a tarantula and a snake – which really added to the edgy vibe that we’re going for.”
