South African hard rock duo Perry & Blackwell are officially closing the Volume 1 chapter with their latest single, “Psych”. The riff-driven track makes a bold statement about facing life’s toughest challenges, questioning your next move, and finding the strength to keep going when everything feels like it is falling apart.
Sometimes life throws you into chaotic situations with no easy answers. “Psych” explores this internal struggle, highlighting the collision between the mind and soul when a person is pushed to their absolute limit. The duo explains that the track is about reaching a point where you must ask yourself what comes next and how to deal with the chaos.
Rather than offering easy answers, the single confronts uncertainty head-on. It encourages listeners to trust their gut, ignore unsolicited advice from those who may not have their best interests at heart, and hold onto their identity. For the duo, the title itself serves as a call to action to prepare, confront the issue, and get on with life.
Climb, Fall, Climb
The core message of the track is summed up in three simple but powerful words: “Climb, Fall, Climb.” It serves as a hard-earned reminder that setbacks are a natural part of any journey. Falling down does not mean the end; what truly matters is finding the strength to get back up and face whatever comes next.
Musically, “Psych” came together through the pair’s signature collaborative approach. The song began with a main riff from Jake Blackwell that needed a turnaround. Jon Perry stepped in with the missing piece, completing the riff and giving the pair a gritty foundation to build upon.

Lifelong friends and seasoned musicians, Jon Perry and Jake Blackwell have spent years cutting their teeth in the Durban rock scene, playing in previous projects like Zip Code, High Trailer, Conform To None, and Minority For The Masses. Returning to their shared love of classic rock, the duo wrote and recorded Volume 1 over three years at their self-built Bunks Studio in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
As the final single from their debut album, “Psych” brings the chapter to a close with a powerful message of resilience, pairing gritty riffs with swagger-filled songwriting. Volume 1 is currently available to stream on all major digital platforms.
