Starcraft II is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game currently under development by Blizzard Entertainment (the same company behind World of Warcraft) as a sequel to their award-winning 1998 game StarCraft. The game is set for worldwide release on the 27th of July 2010. StarCraft II is set in the distant part of the Milky Way galaxy in the 26th century.
StarCraft II is split into 3 installments: the base game with the subtitle Wings of Liberty, and 2 expansion packs namely Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. I still remember playing StarCraft when I was in my 3rd year of varsity with my friends in the corridor. If StarCraft II is going to be the same amount of fun that the first game was, gamers are in for a rough ride. The game is definately one of the most anticipated games of the decade. I’m sure that there will be midnight cues at major gaming outlets packed with gamers who want to get their hands on the game. The original StarCraft game sold more than 11 million copies (according to figures released in February 2009).
This is the newest game trailer for StarCraft II:
Blizzard Entertainment is also working on Diablo III and the Cataclysm expansion for World of Warcraft. No release dates have been announced for these 2 games as of yet. Both these games are also highly anticipated. More than 12 million gamers play World of Warcraft online. I actually started playing again recently after a 5 month break (so I’m one of those psyched up gamers). Watch this space for regular updates in the Technology, Music, Movies and Opinion categories.
