The Gentlemen is a comedic action television series devised by Guy Ritchie exclusively for Netflix, stemming from his 2019 film of the same name.

So what is The Gentlemen about?

At the reading of his late father’s will, Edward Horniman is taken aback to discover he has inherited a vast estate spanning 15,000 acres (equivalent to 6000 hectares) and the prestigious title of Duke of Halstead.

However, the title comes with a unique stipulation allowing it to transfer to the second son. Meanwhile, he uncovers that his land has been transformed into a thriving weed-growing enterprise managed by Susie Glass.

Amidst a realm filled with an array of eccentric and perilous individuals harboring ulterior motives, Edward must adeptly navigate to safeguard his heritage and ensure his survival.

Who stars in The Gentlemen?

The series features performances by Theo James (who also appeared in the Divergent films) Kaya Scodelario (Effy Stonem in the UK TV series Skins), Daniel Ings (who has also appeared in episodes of Black Mirror and The Crown), Joely Richardson (who you might remember from TV’s Nip/Tuck), Vinnie Jones (who also appeared in Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring in Breaking Bad) and Legendary English Actor Ray Winstone.

Here are 10 Interesting Facts you might not know about The Gentlemen (TV Series)

1. Stanley Johnston, portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito, is noted to have amassed his wealth from a meth empire, unmistakably reminiscent of his portrayal of Gus Fring in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

2. An episode of The Gentlemen was penned by the emerging improv comedian siblings, Billy & Theo Mason Wood.

3. This series contains a minimum of seven clear visual nods to The Godfather and The Godfather Part 2, often drawing parallels between Edward and Michael, and Freddy and Fredo.

4. According to the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, The Gentlemen holds a 71% approval rating based on 63 critic reviews. The consensus among critics on the website states, “With a cast that brings charisma to the screen and a polished presentation, Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen doesn’t entirely build upon its predecessor but offers its own enjoyable energy.”

5, Metacritic awarded The Gentlemen TV series a weighted average score of 67 out of 100 from 25 critics, signifying “generally favorable reviews.”

6. The series premiered on Netflix on the 7th of March 2024.

7. Production took place in London and Badminton House from November 2022 through June 2023.

8. Filming was conducted at Longcross Studios and West London Film Studios, supplemented by on-location shoots across various parts of the town, such as the Princess Victoria pub and the Tate Modern, along with sections of Hackney and Islington.

9. Stoke Poges in Buckinghamshire serves as the backdrop for two key settings: Stoke Court, depicted as the prison where Bobby Glass is spotted on the roof with his pigeons, and a property on West End Lane, serving as Chucky’s mansion.

10. The series is a self-contained story, so don’t expect any of the characters from the film to pop up.
