After making a striking entrance onto the music scene with his debut single “Holding On”, rising singer-songwriter Thomas Paul returns with his second release, “Heartache”, now available on all major streaming platforms.
Raw, emotional, and painfully honest, “Heartache” dives deep into the human experience of emotional turmoil and the feeling of being stuck in your own thoughts. Written during a difficult personal period, the song serves as both a confession and a catharsis – revealing the resilience it takes to keep moving forward.

“This song was difficult to write,” says Thomas Paul. “All my music is rooted in real experiences or how I feel. ‘Heartache’ was born during a time when I felt lost in my own head, and songwriting became a way for me to journal those feelings.”
The track began as a spontaneous moment at the piano. Within 20 minutes, Thomas had recorded the first verse as a voice memo on his phone. But the full song would take six months to complete – written slowly, in bursts, only when he was emotionally ready to return to its rawness.
He eventually teamed up with acclaimed local producers Devon Murray and Aidin Nortje—recognized for their work with Ben Rodrigues, Booshle G, and David Derman.
Together, they shaped a haunting, gospel-tinged chorus that elevates the track’s emotional gravity. Their close-knit creative process allowed Thomas to share his vision openly and honestly, resulting in a deeply personal production that mirrors the track’s message.
From the opening heartbeat – a symbol of new beginnings – to the steady drum that runs throughout, “Heartache” is sonically layered with meaning. The persistent rhythm encourages listeners to keep going, no matter how heavy things feel.
In the pre-chorus, a haunting choir echoes the words “home” and “alone”, symbolizing both the need for connection and the reality of isolation. Though it may sound like he’s speaking to someone else, Thomas admits: “I’m actually talking to a different version of myself.”
Thomas Paul’s “Heartache” is more than a Song – it’s a message
At its heart, “Heartache” is a song about survival, vulnerability, and self-compassion. It’s a call to speak up, to reach out, and to find strength in your own story.
“We all struggle. It’s part of being human,” says Thomas Paul. “This song is my way of encouraging people to talk about what they’re going through, in whatever way feels right for them.”
