South African EDM producer Undertone returns with “Still Not Taking It,” a banging electronic take on one of rock’s most recognisable songs – Twisted Sister’s 1984 anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
The track has already earned support from Apple Music South Africa, landing a spot on their New Music Daily Playlist.

The project has been years in the making. It first began in 2023 using the original vocal recording, but copyright restrictions meant it could not be officially released.
Rather than abandoning the idea, Undertone navigated months of discussions with Universal Music to secure the necessary adaptation rights.
Rebuilding a Rock Anthem for the Club
Once legal hurdles were cleared, vocalist Damian was brought in to record a brand-new performance. Undertone carefully rebuilt the track while maintaining the spirit of the original:
“I wanted people who grew up with the original to recognise those little details,” says Undertone. “At the same time, I wanted it to feel like a new song that younger listeners could enjoy too.”
Rather than a simple recreation, Undertone studied the 1984 recording closely, reimagining subtle basslines into lead synths and including a short guitar motif based on the original riff (E, D#, C#, B) to tie the production back to its inspiration.
