Vaughn Prangley Releases New Single: “Monsters Den”

South African-born, Dubai-based singer-songwriter Vaughn Prangley is entering a fearless new era with “Monsters Den” – a sweeping, atmospheric single shaped by loss, persistence, and a rebuilt relationship with music.

Vaughn broke onto the South African music scene with his 2020 debut single “Oasis,” which reached No. 1 on Mix FM. Four more charting singles followed, along with the 2021 EP Where It Begins and his full-length album Destination Unknown in 2022. His deep, textured vocals and introspective writing positioned him as one of alternative music’s most compelling young voices.

But everything changed in 2023. While working abroad, Vaughn Prangley suffered permanent hearing loss in one ear after a diving accident – an incident that reshaped not only his life but his identity as a musician.

“Music had always been my outlet, my way of understanding the world,” he says. “Losing part of my hearing shook me to my core. For a while, I genuinely believed I might never make music the same way again.”

Vaughn Prangley is rediscovering Music After Silence

The aftermath pushed Vaughn into a period of withdrawal from songwriting. Creativity — once instinctive — felt distant. Yet slowly, the pull to make music returned. That journey forms the emotional spine of “Monsters Den.”

At its core, the single is about climbing out of a dark internal place and finding the courage to create again. Written and self-produced over eight months, the track blends ghostly vocals, echoing guitars, glowing synth textures, and even church bells that ring like distant memories. The sound is both shadowed and radiant — a reflection of the battles behind it.

“The monsters are your thoughts, and the den is your mind,” Vaughn explains. “You’re trying to break free from the loop of doubt and get back to the place where you belong. For me, that place has always been music. The song isn’t about being a victim – it’s about resilience.”

A Production Process That Became a Test of Will

Recording “Monsters Den” became its own metaphor for survival. Vaughn Prangley often found himself stuck, frustrated, walking away — only to return with renewed stubbornness.

“I put so much weight on finishing ‘Monsters Den’,” he says. “It became more than just a song – it was proof to myself that I could still do this. That fight … it’s in every note.”

The result is a single that feels lived-in and fought for — the sound of an artist refusing to surrender.

A New Creative Chapter Begins

“Monsters Den” marks a turning point for Vaughn Prangley. The upcoming era is shaping up to be more expansive and self-driven than anything he has released before. An EP is already planned for 2026, promising a mix of the moody atmospherics found in “Monsters Den” along with more groove-heavy, blues-infused work.

It’s the beginning of a rebirth – defined by independence, resilience, and a renewed artistic purpose.
