With the release of his highly anticipated EP Imbewu, producer and DJ Yumbs ushers in a new phase of his creative evolution – one defined by growth, grounding, and purpose.
Translating to “The Seed” in isiZulu, Imbewu stands as both a metaphor and a mission. It represents the careful cultivation of Yumbs’ artistry, nurtured with patience and intention, now blossoming into something deeply meaningful.
Imbewu is a lush, spiritual exploration of Amapiano’s “private school” style – refined, emotional, and rich in texture. The project captures the essence of Yumbs’ musical maturity, where every track reflects a stage of creative and personal development. From moments of introspection to joyful collaboration, the EP feels like a sonic garden – each song a living expression of his journey.

The EP brings together an impressive roster of collaborators who embody Yumbs’ signature sound. Kailey Botman and Zwayetoven, who worked with him on the breakthrough hit “Izimangaliso”, return to reignite the same magic that first captivated listeners. Also joining the project is Nkosazana Daughter, whose ethereal vocals add emotional depth, and producer Stixx, whose soulful touch complements Yumbs’ elegant, layered production.
“You Try” Becomes a Viral Sensation
One of the standout moments on Imbewu is “You Try” featuring Simmy. The song has exploded online, inspiring more than 60,000 TikTok videos within a week and rapidly climbing national radio charts. Its heartfelt visualiser, now available on YouTube, gives fans a closer look at the creative spirit behind one of the year’s most talked-about Amapiano tracks.
The Story Behind the Seed
To accompany the EP, Yumbs released a short documentary filmed in his childhood home in Kagiso. The film explores his roots, his inspirations, and the personal meaning behind Imbewu. It connects his humble beginnings to his blossoming artistry, underscoring the belief that everything great starts small — with faith, persistence, and purpose.
A Lasting Mark on Amapiano
With Imbewu, Yumbs cements his place as one of Amapiano’s most thoughtful innovators. It’s not just an EP; it’s a statement about creative integrity and growth. By blending emotion, spirituality, and technical finesse, Yumbs shows that when art is guided by intention, it doesn’t just make noise — it takes root.
Imbewu is available now on all major streaming platforms, and the “You Try” music video is out now. Check it out below:
