DStv Stream: Showmax Originals' New Home

The stories that helped define Showmax aren’t going anywhere – they’re simply moving house to DSTv Stream. With the current Showmax service set to close on 30 April 2026, its catalogue of acclaimed originals and fan favourites will now live within a dedicated Showmax section on DStv Stream.

This transition ensures that some of Africa’s most celebrated series remain easily accessible, now integrated into DStv’s broader streaming ecosystem.

Showmax Originals will be available to DStv Compact and DStv Premium subscribers via the DStv Stream platform.

A New Chapter for African Storytelling

According to MultiChoice, the move is about continuity rather than change. The same commitment to local storytelling remains firmly in place.

Nomsa Philiso, Director of Content at MultiChoice, emphasises that Showmax played a key role in elevating African narratives to global standards, with titles like The Wife, Youngins, Devilsdorp, and Adulting leading the charge.

The success of these productions has been driven by strong collaborations between local creatives and production teams across the continent. Projects like Spinners, a co-production between MultiChoice and CANAL+, highlight how African stories are increasingly reaching international audiences.

What You Can Watch on DStv Stream

The new Showmax hub on DStv Stream will feature a curated selection of stand-out titles, including:

Law, Love and Betrayal
Devilsdorp

Single Kiasi

International content will also form part of the offering, with titles such as The Real Housewives franchise, Starfleet Academy, The Burbs, and The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. Afrikaans favourites like Die Kantoor and Koek are also included, with new content added on a weekly basis.

More Than Just On-Demand Viewing

DStv Stream isn’t just about binge-worthy series. Subscribers will have access to a full entertainment package that includes over 100 live TV channels, thousands of hours of on-demand content, and a wide selection of kids’ programming like Cocomelon, Blippi, and Super Strikas.

Local hits such as Mgidi Moms, uThando Nes’Thembu, Inimba, and The Real City Makoti further strengthen the platform’s local appeal.

Sport Still Front and Centre

Sport remains a major drawcard on DStv Stream, with SuperSport continuing to deliver premium live coverage. Subscribers can watch major competitions including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, and South Africa’s Betway Premiership.

One standout fixture on the calendar is the Soweto Derby on 25 April – a must-watch for local football fans.

Unlike the previous Showmax Premier League offering, which was limited to mobile devices, DStv Stream is available across smart TVs, smartphones, and other connected devices.

How to Access Showmax on DStv Stream

Getting started is straightforward. Users can download the DStv Stream app or visit the DStv website, log in or register, and navigate to the Showmax section within the platform.

Showmax Originals will be available to DStv Compact and DStv Premium subscribers, including both satellite customers (who get DStv Stream included) and standalone streaming users. DStv Compact Stream packages start from R299.

DStv Stream also comes packed with features designed for flexible viewing. These include live and on-demand access, pause and rewind functionality, “Watch From Start”, offline downloads, recording options, and adjustable video quality to help manage data usage.
