Funky Nature Release New Single: “Together”

With their new single and video “Together,” the London-based collective Funky Nature deliver a groove-forward anthem that blends soulful warmth and indie-hop rhythm with calm, confident ease. The track leans into the band’s instinct for organic, live-instrument energy, wrapped in lyrical honesty and a spirit of genuine connection.

“‘Together’ began as a desire to slow things down and really feel the moment,” says producer, guitarist, and vocalist Jason Fonfe. “I wanted to write something that celebrates the small, everyday things that keep us close. It’s about that human pulse that runs through everything when you stop to listen.”

Drawing from the sensual intimacy of classic soul and filtering it through a modern indie-hop lens, “Together” unfolds with quiet self-assurance. Warm guitar textures and smooth vocal interplay ride a relaxed rhythm section featuring Gareth Haze on drums and Neil Jackson on bass.

The vocal pairing of Hannah Jones Allen and Jason Fonfe adds melodic nuance and emotional presence, while Charles Mould – known as Red Sea – provides a raw, rhythmic counterpoint that grounds the track with direct, lived-in truth.

A Song About Closeness Without the Fireworks

At its heart, “Together” reflects on human closeness in a world that rarely slows down. “We live in such a fast world, and sometimes the real beauty is in slowing down,” Jason adds. “This song reminds me that connection doesn’t need fireworks. It just needs honesty, warmth, and groove.”

The accompanying music video mirrors that sentiment. Vibrant but unforced, it captures the chemistry between the performers and the unspoken bond that fuels Funky Nature’s sound. Every frame pulses with colour, movement, and emotion, echoing the authenticity at the core of the track.

The Sound of Soulful Indie-Hop Groove

“Together” encapsulates what Funky Nature call their Soulful Indie-Hop Groove — a natural blend of live indie instrumentation, soul-rich melodies, and expressive hip-hop storytelling. It feels modern yet timeless, grounded in organic musicality and unmistakably human in tone.

With hints of Gorillaz, The Roots, Massive Attack, and Glass Animals, “Together” lands as both a bold artistic statement and a warm embrace. The band remind listeners that in a world overflowing with noise, the truest rhythm is the one that brings people closer.

How Funky Nature’s Sound Took Shape

Before creating Funky Nature, Jason Fonfe spent years performing and writing in various indie bands. In the quiet suburb of Datchet, he started to deepen his craft in music production, working with the upper-class alt-rock scene around Windsor and Eton and producing an array of guitar-driven projects.

During this period, young artists from across Slough began arriving at his Big Mouth Studios – Black and Asian rappers whose rhythmic agility, lyrical imagination, and vocal finesse left a lasting impression. Jason had been a dedicated hip-hop fan since the 1990s, but it was these collaborations, including work with the Hood Kings, that brought him into the genre’s heartbeat.

Inspired by the mixture of indie music and rap, Jason began envisioning a new kind of sound – one that merged indie guitar textures with the energy and narrative drive of hip-hop. There had been famous crossovers before, like Aerosmith with Run-D.M.C. or Ice-T’s Body Count, but Jason’s aim was something more unified: a fresh, socially progressive fusion built from the ground up.

He reached out to a network of musicians and rappers, gigging around London and developing songs with intentional space for freestyle verses. Rappers connected instantly with the rhythms, often jumping in without rehearsal. Live shows turned into spontaneous collaborations, leaving audiences stunned that the seamless chemistry was entirely unrehearsed.

From this vibrant spark, Indie-Hop was born – a genre rooted in groove, storytelling, and openness.

To capture that spirit – organic, rhythmic, collaborative – the project became Funky Nature.
