For internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Jann Klose, writing music with a childhood hero became a reality with “Hurting Nobody,” the latest single from his acclaimed concept album The Future Trap.
The song features Marcella Detroit, one half of the iconic duo Shakespears Sister, whose unforgettable voice drove the 1990s global smash “Stay.”

Beyond her legendary chart success, Detroit boasts an extraordinary career co-writing Eric Clapton’s classic “Lay Down Sally” and working alongside music greats like Elton John, Aretha Franklin, and Alice Cooper.
For Jann Klose, collaborating with Marcella Detroit was a surreal full-circle moment:
“I honestly can’t believe I get to work with one of my idols! When I was a young teen living in Hamburg, Germany I used to watch Shakespears Sister music videos on MTV… We wrote several songs and three of them made it onto The Future Trap including ‘Hurting Nobody’.” he says.
The partnership began through online songwriting sessions that quickly blossomed into a genuine creative friendship. Detroit recalls how the single came together naturally from conversation:
When chatting about love and sexuality, Jann Klose recounted a recent experience and used the phrase “hurting nobody.” Detroit was immediately inspired, crafting an idea around the feeling of being fully in the moment during a surprising and beautiful encounter.
Released in May, The Future Trap stands as Klose’s most ambitious cinematic concept record to date, following a central character through love, obsession, heartbreak, and renewal.
Fusing pop, rock, folk, electronic, and orchestral influences, the album features an all-star roster of collaborators including Everett Bradley, Alphonso Horne, Annie Haslam, Rachel Flowers, South Africa’s own DJ Cosher, and Marcella Detroit.
At its core, “Hurting Nobody” serves as a reminder that great songs often stem from honest conversation – and that childhood dreams really can come true. The Future Trap is available now on all major streaming platforms.
